“As we look at each of these last four games, like, what is this week, the Florida State week, Virginia, Army and then USC, how do we see this, the four games span, really maximizing what we’re asking our guys to do,” Freeman said prior to the Florida State game. “So, it isn’t like we change drastically what we did during the first bye week. But there’s, again, certain loads and numbers that we want to hit in practice, while also getting the work that we need to get done schematically.

“Obviously, it’s going to be different, just so you know, Eric, it’s going to be different Week 12 than it was Week 1. That’s the flow of a season, and what you’re asking your guys to do.”

Freeman had Notre Dame off to the best start of his young tenure. After going 10-3 last season, winning the Sun Bowl, there were bigger expectations for the 2024 season.

Virginia, not quite at Notre Dame’s level through the first eight games, was 4-4 under Tony Elliott going into the final third of the season.
