A new era is here in Washington DC and the NFL. After spending the past two seasons working on new branding for their franchise, they have not only revealed the name but the uniforms as well.

From now on, the team in Washington will go by the Commanders, moving on from the Washington Football Team. Commanders won out over several other names on a shortlist.

They dropped a hyp video, revealing the brand new name and uniforms. You can check it out here.

The uniforms have more of a modern look to them, compared to the old, classic look the Washington franchise used for so many years. On one side of the helmet will be the primary ‘W’ logo with the player’s number on the other side.

Here is a better look at the uniforms. Defensive end Chase Young is shown in the white version, wide receiver Terry McLaurin is in burgundy, while defensive tackle Jonathan Allen sports the brand new alternate all-black uniforms.

Since the franchise was founded back in 1932, the colors have always been the traditional burgundy and gold. First known as the Boston Braves in 1932, owner George Preston Marshall moved the team to Washington DC before the 1937 season. They won their first NFL championship that season.

Rivalries in the NFC East are turning to a new page as well. Fans of the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles will have a new name on their schedule twice a season.

Although the official reveal was on Tuesday morning, the Commanders name was leaked on Monday night. Staff was seen unloading merchandise at Fed Ex Field with the brand new name on it.

“Staff at the team store at FedEx Field are currently unloading boxes and stocking shelves with Washington Commanders merchandise,” stated Washington Football Team insider Chad Ryan.
