Washington Football Team safety Deshazor Everett was the driver in a fatal car crash on Thursday night, according to NBC Sports Washington’s Pete Hailey. Everett has been in the NFL with Washington since 2015. The cause of the accident is unknown at this time.

“Can confirm that Deshazor Everett was the driver in a crash last night and that the passenger, 29-year-old Olivia Peters, died in the accident,” Hailey tweeted. “Everett is in the hospital with ‘serious but non-life threatening injuries.’

“At about 9:15 p.m., per the Loudoun County Sheriff’s office, Everett’s car ‘left the right side of the roadway, struck several trees, and rolled over.’ The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time and police are looking for possible witnesses to it.

“The crash happened on Gum Spring Road near Ticonderoga Road. Peters was taken to StoneSprings Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, according to LCSO. Everett was sent to Reston Hospital Center.”

The Washington Football Team released a statement on Friday morning.

“We’ve been made aware of an automobile accident last night involving Deshazor Everett,” Washington tweeted. “A passenger in his vehicle lost their life and we extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends who lost a loved one. Deshazor is currently in the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by this tragedy. Our team has alerted the league office and is working with local authorities as we continue to gather more information. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Everett has been a special teams standout with Washington

After playing four years at Texas A&M from 2011-2014, Everett departed to the NFL. In his collegiate career, he totaled 117 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, five interceptions, 13 passes defended and one fumble recovery. Washington signed Everett to the practice squad after he went undrafted in 2015 before ultimately elevating him to the active roster as a rookie.

In seven years with Washington, Everett has played in 89 games. He has a minimal role on defense, but he is an extremely valuable contributor on special teams. In his NFL career, Everett has 168 tackles, two forced fumbles, two interceptions, and 11 passes defended.

In 2018, Washington named Everett as a captain of the special teams unit.

Washington is now 6-8 on the season after losing to Philadelphia on Tuesday. The Football Team has three regular season games remaining, with each coming against a different NFC East opponent.
