Your weekend probably went better than that of a certain Washington Wizards social media intern. A couple nights ago, one Reddit user captured a screenshot of a snapchat from the Wizards’ official team Twitter account that was nine minutes old and seemed to be taken in a club or bar. The post had a caption that read: “I was tryna figure out why it smelt so bad… Jessie out here doin’ the stanky leg in public.”

Redditors quickly deduced that whichever intern had been in charge of the account that night had forgotten to switch out of the Washington account and back into his own personal one. Either that or he really believed Wizards fans needed to hear about he and Jessie’s evening.

Wizard and NBA fans in the comments seemed to think the blunder befit the franchise pretty well given its recent lack of success, and a user named Squilly claimed the mistake was the “best content this page has seen in months.” Another fella, President Naruto, asked, “How is everything this organization does so deeply embarrassing?”

Depressedhuskersfan called it the “most eventful wizards news in around a year” and mfCooldog corrected them, commenting, “decade*” right below.

That may not be a crazy assertion, considering the dearth of success on the court over the last five to ten years. Sure, there were some good days when John Wall was at his peak, but injuries derailed his career right as he was peaking. Seriously; Wall soared over the 20-point-per-game mark for the first time in his career in 2016-17 to average 23.1 along with 10.7 assists per night — numbers which helped him earn his first and only All-NBA appearance while leading the Wiz to their third Eastern Conference Semifinals appearance in four years.

It would be their last, though. That All-NBA appearance made Wall eligible for the 4-year, $170 million extension, which he signed with Washington and had kick in during the 2020 season, right after injuries had mauled his previous two seasons.

Bradley Beal, who rose to become the face of the franchise as Wall deteriorated, has also succumbed to several significant injuries and missed much of the last few years. Now, they’re in a sort of fog in between the last couple playoff spots and the bottom of the league, sort of the worst place to be for an NBA team nowadays. Washington just can’t catch a break, even with its social media team.
