Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper showcased his route running on Sunday with a 24-yard touchdown catch on a route that saw him stop his defender in his tracks. Cooper’s touchdown catch gave the Cowboys a 17-10 lead before halftime against the New York Giants.

Amari Cooper touchdown catch

In an eventful first half that saw the Cowboys struggle on offense while the Giants dealt with significant injuries, Dallas closed the first half with a fantastic throw and catch.

Cooper ran a simple route down the field in man coverage, but executed a fake that gave him the step on his defender. By faking a fade route outside with one step, Cooper cut back inside on a skinny post route that saw him alone in the endzone.

Quarterback Dak Prescott delivered a strike to Cooper in the narrow window as the Giants’ safety came to help, giving Cooper his fourth touchdown of the season.

Cooper finished the first half with two receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown. Prescott closed the half with a pair of touchdown tosses and 161 yards, as well as an interception.

The Cowboys’ day began in frustrating fashion with two turnovers early, including a tipped ball interception against Prescott. Later in the half, a second pass was batted and nearly intercepted as well but was ruled incomplete.

On the same drive as Cooper’s touchdown, Prescott nearly threw a red zone interception as the Giants read a passing play and jumped the route perfectly.

Giants suffer major injuries

The Giants saw running back Saquon Barkley suffer a frustrating injury in the first quarter that forced him to be carted off the field. Barkley appeared to injure his ankle on accidental contact with his own teammate, forcing him off the field.

After limping off to the sideline, Barkley received medical attention on his ankle. The severity of the injury forced medical staff to remove Barkley’s cleats, revealing the extent of his swelling to cameras.

Barkley was then carted off the field into the locker room for additional medical care and has been ruled out for the rest of the game against the Cowboys. While the extent of his injury is unknown immediately, the Giants are hoping Saquon Barkley will not miss significant time with this newest injury.

Later in the first half, quarterback Daniel Jones took a hit to his helmet that appeared to inflict serious injury. As he attempted to leave the field after being hit, Jones stumbled and appeared disoriented. He was aided in leaving the field and carted off to the locker rooms before being ruled out for the game as well.
