Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields found his legs on Sunday afternoon versus the San Francisco 49ers. The rookie ran to the right for 22 yards and a touchdown in the fourth quarter to bring the Bears within one point of the 49ers.
According to Next Gen Stats, Fields only had a 2.3% chance to make it to the endzone when he scrambled out of the pocket. The former Ohio State Buckeye came into the game with 140 rushing yards on 34 attempts (4.1 avg.) He has 103 rushing yards so far versus the 49ers.
Chicago kicker Cairo Santos, unfortunately, missed the point after attempt, his first of the 2021 season, keeping the Bears trailing with the quarter winding down.
Fields finds James
Justin Fields led an 11-play, 74-yard drive down the field, culminating in an eight-yard touchdown pass to receiver Jesse James. The early second-quarter score is Fields’ third in his nascent NFL career.
The 2021 first-round draft pick for the Bears, Fields completed three passes on the drive leading up to the touchdown to James.
The touchdown reception is James’ first of the season. He had just three targets and three receptions for 20 yards coming into the game.

From Buckeye to Bear
Before becoming the future of the Chicago Bears franchise, Justin Fields was a five-star recruit in the state of Georgia. He decided to stay home at Georgia, playing limited time behind Jake Fromm.
Fields then transferred to Ohio State and became an immediate starter. The 6-foot-3, 227-pound quarterback led the Buckeyes to consecutive College Football Playoff appearances before leaving for the NFL Draft.
He finished his college career with 5,701 passing yards, 67 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also ran for 1,133 yards and 19 touchdowns over his three seasons.
