Former Texas Longhorn quarterback Sam Ehlinger has been impressing his new teammates and coaches in fall camp with the Indianapolis Colts.

He’s back in action tonight against the Detroit Lions in the preseason. Late in the 2nd quarter, the former Longhorn star dazzled fans with his ability to escape pressure in the pocket. He uncorked this 59-yard strike to Dezmon Patmon. Check out the video below.

Sam Ehlinger High School Career

Sam Ehlinger played for head coach Todd Dodge at Westlake. He participated in Nike’s “The Opening” and was an Elite 11 finalist prior to his senior season, a camp where the nation’s top-20 quarterbacks compete. He set the school record for total yardage at Westlake (9,896 yards).

Westlake has one of the proudest quarterback traditions of any school in the country, as future Hall of Famer Drew Brees suited up for the Westlake Chaparrals as well. Former Philadelphia Eagle quarterback and current Chicago Bears’ quarterback Nick Foles also played for Chaparrals in high school.

Sam Ehlinger During Senior Bowl

Ehlinger put together a solid performance at the 2021 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. Noted NFL Draft expert Matt Miller was impressed with some of the throws he was making during the week.

He had a touchdown pass in the 2021 Senior Bowl, a 12-yard touchdown pass to UCLA’s Demetric Felton.

The former Longhorn signal-caller completed 4 of his 10 passing attempts in the Senior Bowl for 42 yards and a touchdown.

Sam Ehlinger Texas Longhorn Career

Ehlinger finished his Texas career as one of the most decorated quarterbacks ever to suit up in Austin. He guided Texas to 27 wins as the starting quarterback, the fourth-most in school history.

One of the more impressive stats in Ehlinger’s resume is the fact that he broke Vince Young’s single-season rushing touchdown mark at Texas. He ran for over 1,900 rushing yards and 33 rushing touchdowns in his Texas career.

The Austin native accumulated 13,339 total yards of offense in his career at Texas, the twentieth most in NCAA history. He plastered his name all over the record books, ranking second in Longhorn history in the following stat categories: passing yards (11,346), passing touchdowns (94), pass completions (923), and total touchdowns (127).
