Terry McLaurin is already making a huge impact for the Washington Football Team after one offensive possession. After the Packers scored on their opening possession, Washington drove right down the field and immediately answered.
Washington quarterback Taylor Heinicke looked McLaurin’s way early and often, and each of his three pass attempts on the drive were to McLaurin. McLaurin caught each target for 58 yards, with the third coming in the end zone.
Heinicke dropped back before launching a ball to around the goal line, where McLaurin made an impressive adjustment, leaping to go up and get the pass. The play went for a 40-yard touchdown, which tied the game at 7-7. Washington’s opening possession was good for eight plays, 83 yards and the score, taking 4:45 off the clock.

As a rookie in 2019, McLaurin quickly emerged as a valuable weapon for Washington. In 14 games in 2019, McLaurin caught 58 of his 93 targets for 919 yards and seven touchdowns. Last season, he broke out as one of the top wide receivers in the NFL with 87 receptions on 134 targets for 1,118 yards and four touchdowns.
McLaurin’s totals last season established his position as one of the NFL’s best wideouts. His 1,118 yards were the 13th best total in the NFL. McLaurin’s 87 receptions and 134 targets were also top 20 in the league.
The most impressive part of McLaurin’s strong stats is the fact that he’s done so with one of the least stable quarterback situations in the league. Entering Sunday’s game against the Packers, McLaurin had 33 receptions for 428 yards and three touchdowns through six games.
