WATCH: Tom Brady shows more indecisiveness on NFL future
Tom Brady continues to leave the door open for a potential return to the NFL. The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback attended a Manchester United game on Saturday, where he was caught on camera speaking with Cristiano Ronaldo about his future in the league.
Ronaldo can clearly be heard asking Brady, ‘You’re finished, right?’ in the video, to which the quarterback responded with a hesitant grimace. Brady announced his retirement from the NFL on Feb. 1 after 22 NFL seasons.
Shortly after breaking the news, the legendary quarterback addressed his decision on his Sirius XM podcast. He told co-host Jim Gray that while he doesn’t anticipate changing his mind, he didn’t want definitely rule out the possibility of coming back in 2022.
“You know, I’m just gonna take things as they come,” Brady said. “I think that’s the best way to put it and I don’t think anything, you know, you never say never. At the same time I know that I’m very, I feel very good about my decision. I don’t know how I’ll feel six months from now, [inaudible] change, it most likely won’t. But I try to make the best possible decision I can in the moment, which I did this last week. And, again, I think it’s not looking to reverse course, I’m definitely not looking to do that. But in the same time I think you have to be realistic that you never know what challenges there are gonna be in life. Again, I loved playing. I’m looking forward to doing things other than playing.”
NFL insider Mike Florio recently speculated that Brady could join the San Francisco 49ers next season. He reportedly wanted to play for the team when he left New England in 2020, but they didn’t want him at the time.

“There is reason to believe Trey Lance isn’t ready,” Florio wrote. “There is reason to believe the team is ready to move on from Jimmy Garoppolo. There is reason to believe that Brady, who presumably has nothing left to accomplish, would like to chase Super Bowl win No. 8 while playing for the team he grew up following.”
Tom Brady proved this past season that he can still produce at an elite level, leading the NFL in passing yards (5,316) and touchdowns (43). The future Hall of Fame quarterback has won seven Super Bowls throughout his career, including one with Tampa Bay in 2021. However, he is set to turn 45 before next season, an age at which most quarterbacks have been out of the league for a few years.
Could we see Brady in a different uniform at the beginning of next season? Based on his reaction to Ronaldo’s question, it certainly seems like a possibility.
