WATCH: Trevon Diggs seventh interception of season, second pick six
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs got his seventh interception of the season against the New England Patriots, and his second pick six of the year. Diggs’ interception tied Hall of Famer Rod Woodson as the only two players who have recorded seven interceptions through six games.
Trevon Diggs’ pick six
Diggs entered Sunday’s game with an interception in each of the Cowboys’ first five games, and by securing an interception against the Patriots he joined elite company. With his sixth straight game with an interception, Diggs joined Tom Landry, Barry Wilburn and Brian Russell as the only players in NFL history to string six straight games with a pick to open the season.
The touchdown appeared to be a back breaker for the Patriots after the Cowboys missed a potential go-ahead field goal on the prior possession. The Cowboys entered the Patriots’ drive simply looking to get a defensive stop to get the football back.
After Jones’ pass was just barely overthrown, Diggs pounced on the opportunity in the same way he’s become known for. From the middle of the field, Diggs sprinted past any Patriots in the way to the end zone for his second pick six of the season.
On the following possession, Jones responded in kind with a 75-yard touchdown strike after a blown defensive coverage involving Diggs and his safety help. The Cowboys and the Patriots would end regulation tied at 29-29.
Cowboys review controversy
The Cowboys were involved in a controversial referee decision earlier in the game on Sunday, as a touchdown was overturned after officials did not review the prior play. Prescott appeared to lose control of the football as he attempted to dive into the end zone, and the play resulted in a fumble recovered by the New England Patriots.

The replay of Prescott’s fumble shows Patriots linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley punch the football as Prescott stretched it towards the goal line. The referee review led to the play originally called a touchdown being overturned, giving the ball to the Patriots as the first half drew to a close.
Where the Cowboys and fans found controversy was in the game officials’ deciding not to review the play immediately preceding the fumble, where Prescott appeared to cross the goal line on a quarterback sneak. When the officials cleared the pile of players, Prescott was seen with his whole upper torso in the end zone.
The play was ruled down before he crossed however, leading to the fourth down fumble. Several camera angles shown on the broadcast made it difficult to see where exactly Prescott went down on the play, but one particular camera angle seemed to show that he was still standing before landing in the end zone.
As the play was run in the final two minutes of the half, the NFL officials would need to initiate any reviews. They chose not to review the play, leaving the Cowboys feeling as if they had lost a guaranteed touchdown.
