Chicago police are investigating a shooting at Guaranteed Rate Field during Friday’s White Sox game, according to ABC7 Chicago. The incident apparently took place inside the stadium, police said.

Police spokesperson Tom Ahern confirmed a “shooting incident” at 35th and Shields Friday night, but didn’t provide much more information.

A witness told ABC7 Chicago he was sitting about two rows behind where the apparent shooting occurred. While he didn’t see or hear anything, he saw a woman who appeared to be bleeding from her leg and others who appeared to suffer injuries.

Despite the apparent shooting, the game wasn’t stopped as the White Sox fell to the Oakland Athletics 12-4. However, the team canceled the postgame concert featuring Vanilla Ice and Tone Loc, which was part of its “I Love the 90s” tour. The message on the scoreboard said the cancellation was because of “technical issues.”

As for the game itself, Dylan Cease struggled mightily as he allowed nine runs in 4.1 innings — including five runs in the second — to take his seventh loss of the season. Lenyn Sosa and Eloy Jiménez hit home runs, but it was all Oakland en route to the 12-4 A’s victory.

White Sox fire GM Rick Hahn, executive vice president Ken Williams

The White Sox announced a major shakeup in their front office this week when owner Jerry Reinsdorf fired president Ken Williams and general manager Rick Hahn amid the rough season.

Williams had been with the organization since 1992, starting as a scout before becoming director of minor league operations and vice president of player development. He then became the general manager in 2000 and helped build the team that won the 2005 World Series. In 2012, Williams was promoted to executive vice president as Hahn moved up to general manager.

Hahn was an assistant general manager before his promotion, and the White Sox made the postseason twice — in 2020 and 2021 — during his 11 years in the role.

“Ultimately, the well-worn cliche that professional sports is results-oriented is correct,” Reinsdorf said in a statement, in part. “While we have enjoyed successes as an organization and were optimistic heading into the competitive window of this rebuild, this year has proven to be very disappointing for us all on many levels. This has led me to the conclusion that the best decision for the organization moving forward is to make a change in our baseball department leadership.”
