Wild water bottle video at Arrowhead Stadium shows freezing weather
Just how cold is it at Arrowhead Stadium for the start of the Dolphins-Chiefs game? Well, it’s so cold that a fan showed us how his bottle of water froze as soon as he took it out of the fridge.
Yes, you read that correctly. Water bottle taken from the fridge turned to ice almost immediately. Take a look at the video shared by Brendan Marquart. No wonder fans suggested he switch to beer.
Temps were below zero in KC before game started
There are some crazy scenes coming from Arrowhead. (First, if you’re going to watch the Chiefs-Dolphins, remember it’s streaming on Peacock. Don’t grouse at us, talk to the NFL).
We’re not sure how big the crowd will be for a game guaranteed to be one of the chilliest in NFL history. It’s not Frozen Tundra cold, but it’s definitely Lambeau adjacent. Temperatures are supposed to be about zero degrees (Fahrenheit, not Celsius) at kickoff. In fact, the Weather Channel says it’s currently minus 3 at its weather station with a feel-like temperature of negative 21.
Reporters from Pro Football Talk posted photos of the windows at some of the Arrowhead suites. Let’s just say it’s going to be difficult to see the action live from the field. That’s because there’s ice coating the windows.
You know what this means? Taylor Swift might not be able to see her beau, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. The international pop superstar rolled up to Arrowhead an hour or so before the game. And there’s no question who she is here to see. She was wearing a No. 87 Chiefs jacket.

Andy Reid quipped that Chiefs aren’t here for a ‘snowball fight’
Chiefs coach Andy Reid shrugged off the historic chill earlier in the week. “I don’t care what’s going on out there,” Reid told reporters as he motioned to what was happening outside. “We’re not here for a snowball fight.”
Arrowhead Stadium won’t feel like Lambeau Field, circa New Year’s Eve, 1967. That forever will be known as the Ice Bowl, as Bart Starr led the Packers to a win over the Cowboys for the NFL championship. The temperature was minus 13, with the wind chill at negative 50. Yes, we’re assuming water instantly froze, although social media wasn’t around to document the Arctic antics.
Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills social media team shared some video from Highmark Stadium. The NFL already postponed the Bills-Steelers game from Sunday to Monday. And team officials are asking for volunteers to help shovel snow that’s piled up inside the stadium.
If the scene at Arrowhead or Highmark has you interested in other frozen games, the NFL researched some of the league’s chilliest contests. You can check that list here.
