The Week 1 matchup between Nebraska and Cincinnati will have a little bit extra at stake for a few big-time names in the sports podcasting industry. Both Travis and Jason Kelce, as well as hosts of Bussin’ with the Boys, Will Compton and Taylor Lewan have agreed to wager on the outcome of the game.

Compton and Lewan laid forth a bet — if Nebraska, Compton’s alma mater, beats the Bearcats, then the Kelce brothers have to be guests on their podcast. If Cincinnati, the Kelce brother’s alma mater wins, they’ll have to be guests on their New Heights podcast. A harmless wager, that should lead to some hilarious clips for social media.

The Bussin’ with the Boys crew laid down the challenge, and the Kelce brothers added an extra stipulation. The loser of the bet has to wear the podcast host’s teams mascot head. That would be either Herbie Husker, or Cincinnati’s, Lucille the bearcat.

You have a deal,” Compton responded to the video. “And Jason – we would be honored to have you on our show and boost your guys’ viewership to our small, but very strong audience.”

This isn’t the first time Travis Kelce has put up a bet like this regarding his alma mater. Last season, Texas Tech defeated Cincinnati 44-41 in their first-ever meeting as Big 12 opponents. Before the matchup, Kelce made a similar wager with his friend and quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. Since Kelce lost, he had to wear the mascot head of the Red Raiders on his podcast.

The Kelce brothers debated whether to do this sort of bet twice. In the end, they decided that one co-host has to has to wear the mascot head and the other wears the other team’s apparel. Jason Kelce volunteered to wear the mascot head to spare his brother from having to go through the same punishment twice in one year.

Having this sort of wager is a way to bring these unlikely fanbases together, as this is the first time in over a century that these teams are matching up. The last time these teams met was in November of 1906 in Lincoln.

119 years later, and these two programs will meet for the second time. Kickoff for the non-conference matchup is scheduled for a special start time at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday, Aug. 28. Nebraska is an early 6.5-point betting favorite over the Bearcats, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
