Titans HC Brian Callahan addresses baffling Will Levis fumble vs. Jets: ‘It was dumb’
In the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Jets, Will Levis and the Titans were marching. Tennessee was at the New York 6-yard line with a 3rd-and-Goal, but Levis fumbled – and Brian Callahan didn’t hold back on the sideline.
Speaking with reporters Monday, Callahan addressed the viral moment. When asked what he said, he pointed out the camera that caught the exchange after Levis’ “dumb” mistake.
The CBS cameras caught Callahan asking Levis “What the f*** are you doing?” after the costly turnover. He didn’t directly confirm that’s what he said, but noted the footage was pretty clear and it summed up his frustration.
“I think the camera caught it pretty clear, if I had to guess,” Callahan said. “Yeah, I was upset. It was dumb. It was the same exact thing he did last week, and he cost us points in the red zone. That is what it is.

“He’s a grown up and he knows better. So I was really irritated that he cost us three points in a game that we probably needed it.”

It was the second costly mistake for Levis in as many weeks to start the 2024 season. He also tried to throw the ball away against the Chicago Bears in the opener, but Tyrique Stevenson took it back for what turned out to be the game-winning pick-six.
Then, Levis had the turnover against the Jets. Although New York went three-and-out on the ensuing possession, the Titans still fell 24-17 for their second loss of the season. Considering the opportunity to get points at the time of the fumble, Callahan said his reaction was raw – although he typically tries to keep his composure during games.
“I don’t regret my feelings about it and how I felt in the moment,” Callahan said, via ESPN’s Turron Davenport. “I am generally pretty composed. That one just set me off, and I, I’m human like everybody else. I have blackout moments where I’ll lose my mind.”
All told, Will Levis threw for 192 yards on 19-of-28 passing and a touchdown, but also threw an interception. He’s in his first full season as the starter after the Titans drafted him in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft and he spent time behind Ryan Tannehill before taking over toward the end of the year. Tennessee is now 0-2 entering a Week 3 matchup against the Green Bay Packers.
