Will Levis will not play in Titans preseason game vs. Patriots
For Kentucky fans hoping to get another glimpse of quarterback Will Levis in a NFL uniform, they’ll have to wait. The NFL Network broadcast reported early in Friday evening’s preseason matchup between the Titans and the Patriots that Levis will not be playing against the Patriots due to a lower body injury.
Will Levis missed the team’s second preseason game after suffering a lower-body injury in practice.
Levis emphasized that the injury isn’t too serious. However, he did say that he’s following the advice of the team’s medical staff.
“I just had something happen in a practice that just came up,” Levis said. “I went to the medical staff and I’m just following their directions in the best way to attack it and get better. It’s nothing too serious but I’m just going to make sure I take the right steps to get back to the road to recovery.”
These preseason games are important for Will Levis. He was expected to be an early first round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. However, Levis ended up falling all the way to the second round. Now, he’s competing to be the primary backup quarterback to Ryan Tannehill.
Titans head coach Mike Vrabel is hopeful that Levis is going to play against New England. However, he doesn’t know that it’s going to definitely happen, yet.
In general, this entire process has been frustrating for Will Levis.
“I think the first couple days that I had it and found out I wasn’t going to play in Minnesota, I was definitely down,” Levis said. “Coach ‘Vrabes’ was quick to know that I was upset and pick me up and say, ‘Keep your head up, you can’t do anything about it. You’ve got to be smart with it and just listen to the trainers and do whatever you can as a teammate when you’re not able to play.’ That’s just the approach I’m taking.”
Tennessee will play New England on Friday, August 25th. In his first preseason game, Will Levis was 9 of 14 passing for 85 yards and an interception.
Mike Vrabel on what Will Levis needs to do to earn the backup job
Ryan Tannehill is going to be the starting quarterback for the Tennessee Titans. The job that there’s a battle for is the backup role, which both Will Levis and Malik Willis are competing for. Now, Mike Vrabel has explained what it’s going to take for Levis to earn that job.
“Just letting the game come to him, just take what’s there,” Vrabel said. “Just trying to make sure we are not overdoing it. We are just playing one role, a large role as the quarterback in the offense – taking what they give you, and when there’s opportunities to work the ball down the field, do that. He did some nice things, and (he) would like to have some things back.”
