Will Power shoves Scott Dixon after wreck during IndyCar practice at Road America
While the NASCAR season is taking a week off, IndyCar decided to bring the energy. Will Power was very upset with Scott Dixon during practice. The IndyCar Series is at Road America for the Sonsio Grand Prix. As cars made their way around the track, Power and Dixon got into an incident that almost sent the Team Penske driver into a rage.
Racing can be heated. When it comes to practice time and, well, wrecking a fast car, every lap and every moment is important. Getting that extra bit of practice is important. But so is keeping your car clean. For Will Power and Scott Dixon that all came to an end quickly in Canada Corner at Road America.
This happened when Dixon let Romain Grosjean go by on his left side as he was much slower on the track. Apparently, Dixon was unaware that Power was right behind Grosjean, and merged over way too soon. Both Penske and Chip Ganassi now have their work cut out for them with both cars taking heavy damage.
Will Power was ready to fight as he climbed from his Verizon No. 12 machine.
The AMR Safety Team was out there and able to calm both drivers. Dixon seemed to know that he had messed up and didn’t make too much fuss about Power shoving him. Even as Power got into the safety truck, he was letting Dixon know how much he messed up.

Will Power, Scott Dixon in a tough spot
Now that both of their cars are properly wrecked, Will Power and Scott Dixon need the folks back in the garage to do their magic. The race at Road America is a tricky one. A lap takes a minute and forty seconds give or take. They are going all over the Road America circuit.
So, this race can wear on you. Even in practice. Given the circumstances and the results of the wreck, it is surprising that Power wasn’t more upset. This was just a mistake on Dixon’s part. He had spun out, tried to rejoin, didn’t see Power, and BAM!
The big story here is these drivers might not get a qualifying lap made. That could really change the outlook of this race. Not to mention both Will Power and Scott Dixon are in the hunt for a championship this season. Having a wreck like they did today in practice is not going to help.
I don’t think Power or Dixon will be sending the other one a gift basket or anything anytime soon.
