William Byron wins at Texas, advances to NASCAR Playoffs Round of 8
With some late restart chaos, William Byron is the winner at Texas. He claims the 300th win for Hendrick Motorsports in the Cup Series. This is now the sixth win on the NASCAR season for Byron. He continues to be a championship favorite with this win.
He wasn’t involved for most of this race. However, the 24-car was right where it needed to be when it needed to be there. On the final restart, he got the est of Bubba Wallace and was able to pull away from Ross Chastain in the process.
William Byron gets the milestone win for Hendrick, advances to the playoffs Round of 8, and is a winner at Texas.
William Byron didn’t lead a single lap until that final restart. While Bubba Wallace looked to have it under control, he let Chase Briscoe take his line and keep him from the bottom. Byron was able to take advantage by hugging the bottom of the track and making the pass on Wallace.
Kyle Busch had a bad day today. There is no doubt about that. Tyler Reddick didn’t do very well, either. The points battle moving forward for these drivers is going to get interesting.
Sometimes you don’t have to lead all day to win the race. You just have to be there when you need to be. William Byron saw his opportunity and took it.

William Byron breaks through his usual slumps
Even with the early season success, many, including myself, wanted to see William Byron step up. He has a knack for having a summer slump and even drops off in the postseason at times. This is the first time that Byron has won in the playoff window, ever.
I really wanted to see Byron earn a win in the playoffs. Maybe you want him to be a bit more dominant on the day, but beggars can’t be choosers. A win at Texas takes patience and attrition. Byron waited for everyone to get worn out, and made his move late.
Byron’s teammate, Kyle Larson, was dominant on the day. He led 99 laps and was looking like the clear winner. However, he ended up wrecking on a late restart.
William Byron, six wins on the year and a lot of momentum heading into the Round of 8. He can now focus on the races for that round, Las Vegas, Homestead, and Martinsville. Byron won at Vegas this year, is he setting up to win again?
