Apparently, William Byron is still on a hot streak! In the Pocono Mountains, the Hendrick Motorsports driver was excellent in qualifying. There were issues with some of the NASCAR Cup Series field on this Tricky Triangle. Byron remained about perfect as he raced to the pole award.

This is the third time that William Byron has won the pole award this season. Byron’s last pole came at Kansas. His first of the season was at COTA. So, he has shown a knack for various race tracks this season.

With this speed, Byron will be among the favorites for Sunday. However, don’t get too excited, Martin Truex Jr. has some speed as well. This could be a very fun battle at Pocono tomorrow.

William Byron is looking for a regular-season championship. He is going to start next to the man that is most likely to beat him for it, Martin Truex Jr. Last week, Truex jumped out from P2 and took control of the New Hampshire race. He did not let up, either as he dominated the day on his way to a win.

Byron’s teammate Chase Elliott had a disastrous qualifying session. He spun out on his first lap and did not post a time. He will start in the rear of the field in a dire situation as far as the playoffs are concerned. Bubba Wallace, who had the second-best time coming into the final qualifying round, hit the wall on his lap.

William Byron looking for fifth win this season

Last year, in the first year of the Next Gen car, Elliott had the most wins. Five wins was all it took to top the list at the end of the season. Right now, Byron has four wins and is searching for his fifth as the regular season winds down.

William Byron lost the points lead to Truex Jr. after the Crayon 301. This weekend he has a chance to not just get a win but to put himself in position for that regular season championship. Let’s remember folks, Byron had 60 points taken away due to an illegal greenhouse earlier this season. That’s how good he’s been in 2023.

It might just be the year of the 24, a year before the 2024 season. Jeff Gordon has to be happy to see Byron doing so well in the car that he made famous in the 90s and 2000s.

Pocono Raceway is a tough track to win at. Starting at the front will help Byron set himself up for a big day. He is going to compete for points and likely, the checkered flag in tomorrow’s HighPoint.com 400.
