A little air got packed on the rear end of the No. 18 car and William Sawalich found himself in the wall on Lap 1 at Las Vegas. This NASCAR Xfinity Series race is having trouble early. It could be a wild afternoon.

William Sawalich has not had a great time in Las Vegas. The 18-year-old was P23 in the Truck Series race last night. He struggled and had issues on pit road.

Now in his full-time series, Sawalich finds himself in the wall early. Jeb Burton helped him out here. Then Parker Retzlaff spun out trying to avoid the whole mess. He also had help.

Joe Gibbs Racing believes that William Sawalich is a driver they can invest in. We know how great he was in the ARCA Menards Series. However, he has to take that next step up now. With rookies like Connor Zilisch, Carson Kvapil, Christian Eckes, and Taylor Gray in the Xfinity Series, he has a lot to compete with.

Today was not his fault. He was in a bad spot early in the race and hit the wall. You do your best to move on and do better at the next race.

Good news for William Sawalich, he has a good points position right now. He will fall after this week. But he entered this race in 12th place. When he starts to get the hang of this Xfinity Series car we could see him racing for wins.

William Sawalich out early in Xfinity Series race at Vegas

With William Sawalich out early it feels like the rest of the Xfinity Series field has calmed down. That is how these things usually go. Drivers get wild and crazy to start the race and after someone is junked it all calms down.

This is a tough series. As mentioned above, there is a plethora of young talent in the series right now. There are only a few opportunities at the next leve in the Cup Series for these drivers. Sawalich is 18, we can hold off on Cup talk for a while yet, but he’s shot up the ranks up to this point.

There will be chances for Sawalich to impress people at the Cup level. Right now he needs to take things slow and work on developing. It is clear that he has a lot to learn and as a rookie that should be expected.
