WWE star Drew McIntyre surprises Team USA at Special Olympics World Games
During WWE superstar Drew McIntyre’s break from the road, he took some time to join up with Team USA during the Special Olympics World Games. He surprised the group, who were elated to see the former WWE Champion.
“Time for a little surprise,” McIntyre said to the camera before seeing the team. One member of the team knew who he was immediately.
Watch the moment below:
McIntyre has taken some time off of wrestling over the past couple of months, but continues to be a global ambassador for WWE outside of the ring. He hasn’t been on WWE programming since competing in an Intercontinental Championship Triple Threat match against Gunther and Sheamus at WrestleMania 39 in April.
That extended break could come to an end fairly soon, according to Ringside News. WWE is set to host a tour of the UK beginning next week, which coincides with WWE’s Money in the Bank premium live event on July 1.
The former WWE Champion, who main-evented WrestleMania 36 in 2020, is set to see his contract expire sometime in 2024, but the company is confident they’ll lock him up long-term before he has the chance to slip away again, per Ringside News. No Drew Galloway in AEW, marks. For now, at least.

In fact, the reasoning behind McIntyre’s two month-long hiatus isn’t due to injury or a contract hold out — it’s simply due to the fact that the creative team hasn’t found a story worthwhile of giving one of their top draws.
McIntyre has left WWE once before, however. In June of 2014, McIntyre was released from his WWE contract and quickly became one of the biggest stars of the international independent circuit. He showed up in Scottish promotion ICW under Mark Dallas the following month, and it wasn’t long before he was starring in Evolve, PWG and IMPACT Wrestling as well.
He returned to WWE in 2017 as the star of its developmental brand, NXT. There, he’d quickly become the NXT Champion and it wasn’t long before he was called up to the main roster and eventually main event the biggest wrestling show in the world.
While fans are anxiously awaiting his return, no exact date has been set on his return as of this report. WWE’s fan-favorite premium live event Money in the Bank is set to take place on July 1 inside the O2 Arena in London, though he has not been advertised for the event.
