Despite having a tough June, some awards have come in for the Texas Rangers. Outfielder Wyatt Langford has been named the American League Rookie of the Month. Langford is a first-time recipient of the award and the first Texas rookie to be named to it since Josh Jung over one year ago.

“Texas Rangers outfielder Wyatt Langford has been named the American League Rooke of the Month for June, it was announced this morning on MLB Network,” a release said. “This is the first time that any Texas player has won a league monthly award since May 2023, when Nathan Eovaldi won pitcher honors and Josh Jung took the rookie award.”

Langford got off to a slow start this season, having difficulty finding consistent stretches. Not just in his power but getting on base and being a significant contributor on offense as everyone expected. Going down with an injury certainly did not help either.

However, the former Florida product has turned things around and was rewarded for his performances in June. Fresh off the Injured List, Langford slashed .309/.368/.894 with a total of 51 bases. He added three home runs, 22 RBIs, and six stolen bases.

As mentioned, the power really showed up in June, and not just because of the home runs. Six doubles and three triples were produced as opposing teams have to be prepared for Langford’s speed on the bases. If there is a ball hit into the gap, the rookie is off to the races and attempting to get into scoring position.

Langford did end June in impressive fashion, on Sunday Night Baseball nonetheless. The rookie not only hit for the cycle but he capped things off with a grand slam, the first of his career. He now has an inside-the-park home run, a grand slam, and a cycle on the season — being the first in Texas Rangers history to have all three in a single season and just the 17th all-time in baseball.

The Rangers will be hoping Langford continues to stack up Rookie of the Moth awards and eventually be named the AL Rookie of the Year. Not just in efforts to defend their World Series title but MLB will dish out a reward if Langford winds up winning.

An extra first-round pick would head Texas’ way, coming in the “Prospect Promotion Incentive Picks” portion of the draft, likely being the No. 31 or No. 32 overall pick.
