Xavier Restrepo made headlines at the Miami Pro Day but for the wrong reasons. His reported 40-yard dash times did not impress, sitting between 4.7-4.8 seconds. Not the type of numbers you want from a wide receiver, especially one who is considered a potential Day 2 pick.

People on social media wondered if something was off and later Tuesday, Restrepo confirmed there was an injury during the process. He says to have tightened up his hamstring right before running. Restrepo still wanted to run after the ailment because of his previous practice but certainly paid the price.

“Don’t usually do this but I feel like it’s necessary due to the circumstances,” Restrepo said via X. “During warm ups yesterday before the 40, my right hamstring tightened up on me and prohibited me to opening up and running my fastest. The reason I still ran is because for 2 straight weeks I consistently hit 4.53-4.58 laser in training and thought I could still pull it off. I did everything just because it’s in my blood to compete. With that being said, I am now focusing on getting back to 100% healthy and getting ready to play football! Ready to let God take over!”

Restrepo was invited to the 2024 NFL Combine, mostly there to participate in interviews. Bench press was the only workout he took part in, getting 17 reps of 225 pounds up. No 40-yard dash was run while in Indianapolis.

Miami hosting a Pro Day meant that teams could finally get an opportunity to see how well Restrepo is running. If he had hit a number around 4.5, as the statement said, scouts would have walked away impressed. Instead, there is now going to be questions heading into the draft.

Testing numbers are one thing. How well Restrepo performed during his Miami career is another story, especially this past year. In 13 games played, he caught 69 passes for 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns — both of which led the ACC. Back-to-back century marks are on the resume as Restrepo found success in 2023, too.

NFL.com’s Chad Reuter recently put out a four-round NFL mock draft. Restrepo was slated to go late in the second round to the Buffalo Bills. Another weapon for Josh Allen as the push for a Super Bowl continues in upstate New York. Speed is required of early-round receivers, and despite poor times, Restrepo knows the injury played a role.
