According to court records, the case against Kansas City Chiefs receiver Xavier Worthy has been upgraded to “dismissed/declined.” It was previously reported that Worthy had been arrested for assault against a family or household member by impeding their breathing circulation in Georgetown, Texas, a half hour north of Austin.

Now it appears that the charges against him have been dropped. The Austin American Statesman also reported that Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick on Saturday evening said his office is not accepting the case at this time.

“After further investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and further discussion with a third-party witness, Mr. Worthy and his attorneys, this case is being declined at this time pending completion of the investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office,” Dick said, according to the Statesman. “Mr. Worthy and his lawyers are fully cooperating with this investigation.

“We will continue to evaluate the case.  As is our practice with all declines, should you develop additional information indicative of probable cause in this case, our office will consider that information and may present the case at that time to a Williamson County Grand Jury.”

This past season, Worthy recorded 59 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns during the regular season. He became the first former Longhorn to score a touchdown during a Super Bowl after finishing the game with 157 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, including a 50-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

With his performance, Worthy broke the record for the most receiving yards by a rookie wideout in the Super Bowl. The previous record was owned by Torry Holt and Chris Matthews, who were tied at 109 yards.

Xavier Worthy’s attorney also released a statement on the matter shortly after the news of his arrest was made public.

“We are aware of the allegation that led to Mr. Worthy’s arrest,” the statement begins. “We are working with law enforcement in Williamson County to ensure they have the benefit of the totality of circumstances that led to this allegation. The complainant was recently asked to vacate Mr. Worthy’s residence upon discovery of her infidelity. She has refused to do so and made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy.

“We will continue to cooperate with the Williamson County authorities as we have full faith that their investigation will support Mr. Worthy’s innocence.”

Based on the change in the status of his case, it seems it didn’t take long for them to get things sorted out.
