Xavier Worthy loses bet to Mecole Hardman on Texas-Georgia game, forced to wear Bulldogs gear to Chiefs facility
Kansas City Chiefs (6-0) rookie wideout Xavier Worthy arrived at the facility Tuesday wearing Georgia Bulldogs gear after he appeared to lose a friendly wager to teammate Mecole Hardman.
Worthy, the former Texas Longhorns star, had a rough night this past Saturday after Georgia defeated his alma mater, 30-15, inside Texas Memorial Stadium. Hardman, the former Georgia standout, had a good one. And since Texas came out on the losing end, Worthy had to live up to the wager. A dejected Worthy was filmed by Hardman wearing a Bulldogs long sleeve, a video which Hardman blasted out to social media.
Perhaps the Longhorns could have used Worthy against the now No. 2 team in the nation, as Texas’ potent offense was largely held in check by Kirby Smart‘s defense. Worthy was a two-time All-Big 12 selection during his time in Austin, and the Chiefs certainly took notice.
They selected him in the first round (28th overall) in the 2024 NFL Draft, and he is currently operating as the No. 1 receiver in the offense with the injuries to Rashee Rice, Hollywood Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster.

Xavier Worthy continuing to develop in Chiefs offense
While the numbers don’t show it, 15 catches for 198 yards and four total touchdowns, Worthy has showed his ability to be must-see in open space going back to his two-touchdown performance in the season-opening win over the Baltimore Ravens (5-2).
“Probably the patience is the biggest thing,” offensive coordinator Matt Nagy said last week of the developing connection between Worthy and quarterback Patrick Mahomes. “Rashee took a little bit of time, a few plays occurred middle of the season where you’re like as a coach you go, yeah, that’s what we know he can get to. I think that was probably the same way, too, with Pat when he saw a couple of those plays, and so, like, they’re different receivers, Xavier and Rashee, but we can kind of see what their strengths and weaknesses are.
“But patience is probably the biggest factor in this, but again, I’ll continue to go back with Xavier, and Rashee was the same way, as these guys are smart kids that have high football IQs, so it makes that part of the process easier.”
