Yankees broadcaster John Sterling bloodied by foul ball, continues broadcast
John Sterling, the radio broadcaster for the New York Yankees, is a baseball legend. However, even legends need to be ready to catch a foul ball at any given moment.
For Sterling, that moment came on Saturday night, during a game between the Boston Red Sox and Yankees. Justin Turner, a corner infielder for the Red Sox was at the plate. When he fouled the ball off, it went back toward the broadcast booth and took out the legend.
On the play, it didn’t seem like John Sterling realized the ball was coming his way at all. Instead, he was surprised when the ball hit him.
“Ow! Ow! Ow! It really hit me, I didn’t know it was coming back that far,” Sterling said before going right back to calling the game. “So once again, it’ll be a 3-2.”
On the one hand, the moment was humorous in its own right. On the other hand, it was also a scary moment. John Sterling is 84 years old now and he could have been badly hurt. He’s also recently missed time in the booth because of an illness that he was fighting. So, in a way, it was really phenomenal that he was able to continue calling the game.
John Sterling has been the Yankees’ radio broadcaster since 1989, becoming a legend for fans who watched and listened to the team in the 1990s and early 21st century.

Red Sox radio broadcaster hilariously set off Siri during a game
The Boston Red Sox have their own radio broadcasting legend, Joe Castiglione, who has filled that role since 1983. Over the years, he’s made some of the most iconic calls in the history of the Boston Red Sox. However, during a game against the Tampa Bay Rays, he ran into some hilarious trouble.
Jose Siri stepped to the plate and Castiglione’s iPhone decided that he must be talking to it when he announced Siri.
During the broadcast, Siri on Castiglione’s phone went off and other people in the broadcast booth started to laugh while Castiglione tried to figure out what was going on. Eventually, he did and he had to have a laugh at his own expense.
“It was Siri? That was Siri!” Castiglione shouted. “It came through on the iPhone. Siri’s at the plate. I’m not asking you, Siri. Not this Siri, that Siri.”
