Report: Zach Ertz re-signs with Washington Commanders on one-year deal

Three-time Pro Bowler Zach Ertz is heading back to the Washington Commanders on a new deal. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Ertz signed a one-year deal to return to the D.C. area.
“Three-time Pro Bowl TE Zach Ertz is re-signing with the Commanders on a one-year, $6.25 million deal worth up to $9 million with incentives, per sources,” Pelissero wrote on Twitter. “Ertz made a big impact in Washington and now is headed back on a deal negotiated by Steve Caric of Wasserman.”
In Ertz’s first season with the Commanders this past year, he finished with 66 catches for 654 yards, seven touchdowns and 9.9 yards per catch. He played just 17 games the previous two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and finished with 74 catches, 593 yards, five touchdowns and eight yards per catch.
“The money to me, is definitely secondary,” Ertz said, via ‘Green Light with Chris Long.’ “Now, we’ve been blessed and fortunate enough to have that opportunity, to have it be secondary, to go to a right situation and not just chase the highest paycheck. But I’m also not a guy that just wants to be out there, to be out there, if I’m just going to be out there and play 30% 20% whatever it is, like, that’s not, I want to be able to make an impact.”

Ertz previously set the record for most catches in a season by a tight end in 2018 while with the Philadelphia Eagles (116). A veteran tight end and former second round pick by the Eagles in 2013 out of Stanford, Ertz enters his 13th season in 2025.

Over the course of his career, Ertz has 775 catches, 8,088 yards, 53 touchdowns and 10.4 yards per catch with the Eagles, Cardinals and Commanders.
In 2017, Ertz aided the Eagles to a win in Super Bowl LII over the New England Patriots. In the 41-33 victory, he scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter.
“I’m not retiring just because I had so much fun this year,” Ertz said on Jan. 29, via SI. “I feel rejuvenated. I feel young. I played good football this year, so for me it’s figuring out everything going forward, and they know how I feel about this place.”
