Zack Martin injury update: Dallas Cowboys make series of roster moves ahead of MNF vs. Bengals
The Dallas Cowboys made a series of roster moves ahead of their Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The team has elevated cornerback Andrew Booth from the practice squad to the active roster. Dallas has also activated cornerback Amani Oruwariye from injured reserve to the 53-man roster and signed cornerback Kemon Hall from the practice squad. Offensive lineman Zack Martin and cornerback Josh Butler have officially been placed on injured reserve.
With Martin placed on IR, his 2024 season is officially over. The All-Pro offensive lineman is getting ready to have surgery on his injured ankle, an ailment that has bothered him for “years.” Butler’s season is also over after tearing his ACL in the Thanksgiving game against the New York Giants. Booth, Oruwariye and Hall were added to the active roster for added depth at the cornerback position due to the loss of Butler and Trevon Diggs dealing with a knee injury.
Last week, Martin talked about the ankle injury that slowed him down last month. “It’s something I’ve been dealing with all year, back to training camp, and really over the last few years,” Martin said, per DallasCowboys.com. “But the last couple of weeks, we kind of took those two weeks and tried to heal up and did some different treatments, and stuff like that. And then, Monday, we did some workouts on the field and that just didn’t respond very well. Britt [Brown] and I kind of had a heart-to-heart conversation and decided that it was smart to get this thing fixed and get healthy.”

Zack Martin talks about being nominated for Walter Payton Man of the Year
The news of Martin being placed on IR comes as the Cowboys named him their 2024 nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. “Having that extreme honor of being the nominee for the Walter Man of the Year,” he said.
“It’s very humbling, and it makes you feel good inside to look at some of the teammates in the past that I’ve been really close with that have been the nominees, and obviously Dak [Prescott] was the winner of it [in 2022] and to see how much they pour into the community and what they do for this team, not only on the field but off the field. So very humbled to be a part of that.”
