College football’s premier programs are again recruiting at a high level in the 2026 class, with some of the biggest names across the country occupying the top spots in the Rivals Team Rankings.

But in the transfer portal era where some teams are opting for big classes and others have narrowed their focus to a more select group, it can be hard to pin down the best class. One simple way to do that is by using the average rating per commit — an apples-to-apples comparison of the nation’s top groups that compares quality and not quantity.

With Rivals’ Industry Team Rankings, which utilizes all three major recruiting media companies: Rivals, 247Sports, and ESPN, we can make that comparison. Below are the top 10 teams in average rating per commitment so far this cycle:

Oregon

Commitments: 15
Avg. Rating Per Commit: 92.28

The Ducks have taken their lumps early in the cycle as well though, losing five-star offensive tackle Kodi Greene to Washington, four-star quarterback Jonas Williams and four-star defensive lineman Tomuhini Topui to USC, as well as four-star lineman Bott Mulitalo, who decommitted before pledging to BYU. But they still boast one of the nation’s top pound-for-pound classes. And it’s a group headlined by Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman five-star safety Jett Washington and Five-Star Plus+ offensive tackle Immanuel Iheanacho, as well as elite tight end Kendre Harrison.

LSU

Commitments: 16
Avg. Rating Per Commit: 91.79

The Tigers’ 16-man class is headlined by five-star wideout Tristen Keys, who chose LSU over Ole Miss, USC, Alabama, Tennessee and dozens of others back in March. In addition to Keys, LSU’s defensive staff has a pair of studs of their own in New Orleans Edna Karr five-star Richard Anderson and University Lab (La.) five-star athlete Lamar Brown. While Brown just joined the class, Anderson has been pledged to the Tigers for nearly a year.

Alabama

Commitments: 19
Avg. Rating Per Commit: 91.50

After a year where they signed three five-stars and seven top-100 overall prospects in 2025, Alabama is now looking for another repeat. June brought a pair of big pledges for the Tide via running back Ezavier Crowell and linebacker Xavier Griffin. And July started with some early fireworks as well, as five-star wide receiver Cederian Morgan and five-star safety Jireh Edwards added their names to the commit list last week. They now headline the class alongside five-star cornerback Jorden Edmonds — and give Alabama five commitments ranked in the top-40 nationally.

Notre Dame

Commitments: 26
Avg. Rating Per Commit: 90.93

Charlotte Myers Park five-star EDGE Rodney Dunham became the top-ranked commit in the Irish’s class, as he chose ND over Georgia, Tennessee and others back in April. He’s now the No. 13 player nationally and the No. 2 EDGE. Five days earlier, another elite EDGE prospect in South Garner (N.C.) four-star Ebenezer Ewetade committed. He is a major outlier for Rivals, checking in as the No. 20 recruit. June brought a trio of top-100 prospects the fold: four-star safety Joey O’Brien chose ND over Penn State; the nation’s No. 4 tight end Ian Premer; and elite cornerback Khary Adams added another piece to an intriguing secondary haul.

Ohio State

Commitments: 20
Avg. Rating Per Commit: 90.90

The Buckeyes don’t sit as high in the team rankings (No. 9) as we’re used to seeing, but the quality of their class is still as good as any throughout the country. Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei five-star wide receiver Chris Henry Jr. leads the group as the lone top-32 player, but he’s joined by a talented and deep group. Safety Blaine Bradford, offensive tackle Sam Greer, linebacker Cincere Johnson and defensive lineman Khary Wilder are all top-50 prospects, according to Rivals.

Texas A&M

Commitments: 25
Avg. Rating Per Commit: 90.85

In Mike Elko’s second full recruiting class, Texas A&M is building another monster as the Aggies load up on talent in 2026. Four-star wide receiver Aaron Gregory was one of the team’s earliest commitments back in October, and he is part of a group that features seven top-100 players. A&M has built a standout secondary group with five-star corner Brandon Arrington and No. 8 CB Victor Singleton. They also boast one of the country’s best running back duos with KJ Edwards (No. 4 RB) and Jonathan Hatton Jr. (No. 6 RB)

USC

Commitments: 31
Avg. Rating Per Commit: 90.72

Midway through July, the Trojans hold the country’s No. 2 class and a whopping 31 commitments — nearly double the average of many Power 4 teams across the country has in their own classes. Two check in as five-stars, while 19 more check in as four-stars and another 10 check in as three-stars. In total, more than half of the Trojans’ class hails from the Golden State (55%), and 68% of current commits are blue-chip prospects in the Rivals Industry Ranking.

Georgia

Commitments: 30
Avg. Rating Per Commit: 90.71

Few football programs have been recruiting at the level Georgia has over the past half-decade, as the Bulldogs have claimed the No. 1 class multiple times since 2019. They’re on the hunt once again, trailing just behind USC for the top overall class. UGA has a pair of five-stars committed in quarterback Jared Curtis and tight end Kaiden Prothro, but it also features 10 more players who check in as top-150 prospects in the player rankings.

Florida

Commitments: 18
Avg. Rating Per Commit: 90.34

Coming into the month of June, Florida sat well outside the top 25 of the Rivals Industry Football Team Recruiting Rankings. But after 10 commitments in the span of two and a half weeks, the Gators were as hot as any team in the country on the trail. Their momentum has cooled slightly, but their class is still one of the most talented top-to-bottom across the nation. Despite not having a single commitment ranked in the top 100, they still boast one of the highest-ranked class because of their depth. 13 of their 18 commits are blue-chippers.

Texas

Commitments: 20
Avg. Rating Per Commit: 90.08

The Longhorns got a slower start to the summer than some other programs, but have been absolutely on fire in the month of July. Earlier this week, Grayson (Ga.) five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson chose the Longhorns over in-state Georgia. Less than six hours later, Sarkisian took another one off of Kirby Smart, flipping Rivals five-star defensive lineman James Johnson. The latter had only been committed to UGA for 2 1/2 weeks. Their commitments now give Texas four five-stars in the class, tying Alabama for the most in the country.
