Jackson (Ala.) quarterback Landon Duckworth committed to Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks in August of 2023 before his sophomore season. He stayed committed for 10 months before opening his recruitment in June of 2024. He gave other schools a chance, but his feelings about the SEC school in Columbia never changed.

“I always loved South Carolina,” Duckworth told Rivals. “Coach Beamer was always the same. We have been close for a long time. That is what kept South Carolina high on my list. They had a change of offensive coordinator, so I had to get to know coach Shula better, but South Carolina was always up there.”

After the official visit to South Carolina, Duckworth returned to Auburn. Then after competing at the Elite 11 Finals, the four-star returned to Columbia.

“It really feels like home there for me. It is about the people who make me comfortable at South Carolina. Coach Loggains left for Appalachian State, but coach Shula got on me right away and we get along well. We spent a lot of time together this spring and on my visits, so things just keep getting better.

“Coach Beamer never changed with me. He made me feel special. They always wanted me there and South Carolina is a place I can be successful at.”

Ole Miss was in the mix, and at one time, the Rebels were the frontrunner. South Carolina stayed consistent and it paid off. They held off Auburn, the in-state school, for the No. 85 prospect in the Rivals Industry Ranking.

“South Carolina was on me at the beginning and it is a great school for me,” Duckworth said.
