10 Things for Tuesday

Here’s 10 Things for Tuesday, sponsored by Brent Campbell, for the second week of July:

1. What’s up with Lamar Brown?
The biggest (literally and figuratively) player left on A&M’s recruiting board is 5-star defensive tackle Lamar Brown of Baton Rouge, who will commit at 12:15 p.m. central time on Thursday. The question of who he’s going to commit to is about as big as he is. It’s either going to be A&M or LSU, and he’s not tipping his hand as to which. There may be a Twitter post that might give a hint, but we’ve seen misdirection before:
Brown is the lone defensive tackle that the Aggies are seriously after for 2026, so whether they get him or not, they’re likely going to look for veterans in the transfer portal. Still, he’s a major talent who could get on the field quickly because he earned it, not because he has to play due to depth problems.
2. A&M picks their three players for SEC Media Days
The SEC announced today that cornerback Will Lee, offensive lineman Ar’maj Reed-Adams and linebacker Taurean York will represent Texas A&M at SEC Media Days. While all three quite deserving, it’s a bit of a surprise not to see Trey Zuhn on the list. He went last year and he is a two-year captain. But, then again, maybe I shouldn’t be surprised. While Zuhn is willing to come out and talk to the local press, he doesn’t strike me as a guy who would find flying several hundred miles, dressing up and having a bunch of TV cameras shoved in his face a good time. He’s been there, done that and someone else can have the opportunity. That’s the sort of thing you like to see from a captain and being selfless sets a good tone — even if it’s just a great reason not get dressed up.
3. What could A&M still use in the 2026 class (offense)?
The Aggies are up to 24 commits, with several more still on the board. But are there any other areas that could use more help? Here’s a look:
QB: They have one, they needed one, they’re good.
RB: They have the best duo in the nation. Also good.
TE: They have a pair, but are looking at at least one more (Evan Jacobson).
WR: They have three, but would like a fourth. Jase Mathews remains uncommitted, and they’re still working on LSU 5-star commit Tristen Keys.
OL: They have three — Zaden Krempin, Avery Morcho and Samuel Roseborough — and that may be what they go with, because there’s almost nobody out there who isn’t committed elsewhere. They may look for a flip later on.
4. What could A&M still use in the 2026 class (defense)?
DE: Texas A&M already has a nice haul with Jordan Carter, Jermaine Kinsler, Bryce Perry-Wright and Tristian Givens, but they’re still after Anthony Jones at the very least.
DT: There’s Brown, and that’s it. Maybe they think they have the depth for next year if DJ Hicks returns, because they may (never say they will in the age of the portal) have Dealyn Evans, DJ Sanders, Landon Rink, Chace Sims and Jaydon Scarlett. Odds are more likely, Brown’s addition or not, they’re active in the portal.
LB: They have Tank King and DaQuives Beck, and Samu Moala and Storm Miller could play at least some linebacker (they’re likely JACKs). They’re also the presumed leader for Tamarion Watkins, who could play a linebacker/safety mix.
S: They have a really good one in Chance Collins, but they’ve been after Tylan Wilson well over a year. They would be very happy campers if they could get those two.
CB: They’ve got three they really like, and they’re done.
5. After having three months to think on it, what depth issues does Texas A&M football have going into THIS season?
On offense, I’m still worried about wide receiver. If Terry Bussey is healthy and breaks out and Jerome Myles is as good as advertised, then I won’t be. On defense, defensive tackle still terrifies me, but I could be overreacting. I’m also not sold at all on corner depth and expect we’ll see a freshman — Adonyss Currie? — out there sooner as opposed to later.

6. Who I’m interested in hearing at SEC Media Days
We’re less than a week from the unofficial kickoff of football season, which will take place this year in Atlanta (AY Happy Hour, anyone?). Texas A&M won’t get to the podium until Thursday, so there will be a lot of blabbing before the main event.
Here are a few guys I’m interested in hearing from: Elko, of course. He may not be the most exciting guy to listen to, but if you do listen, he tells you a pretty good amount.
LSU coach Brian Kelly. Not that he’s fun to listen to, but because I expect he’ll get defensive over how things went last year and he’ll have to rationalize how his team will be better even though his offensive line will be worse.
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian: Not that he’s going to say anything interesting, but to see how long before he gets exasperated over all the Arch Manning questions.
Auburn coach Hugh Freeze: He’s feeling pressure already, and he doesn’t necessarily handle that well. That could be interesting.
Arkansas coach Sam Pittman: It’s always interesting to listen to someone who knows they’re coaching for their job.
Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz: Just because I want to watch his reaction to a Will Lee-related question.
7. Did you know Big 12 Media Days was today?
I didn’t either. There is such a big difference between SEC Media Days and everyone else’s.
8. Sunday is sweat it out night for Aggie baseball
The Major League Baseball draft starts Sunday night with the first three rounds. This could be make or break for a few Texas A&M players, and even more signees. There are 105 total picks to be announced during the draft’s first night, with 15 compensatory picks added to the 30 regular picks. If the Aggies see their signees — and possibly players like Shane Sdao and Kaeden Kent — get through the first night, they may decide to come (or come back) to Aggieland.
9. This would be something
After a rough 2025 season, Texas A&M centerfielder Jace LaViolette has slid some in the estimation of MLB teams. He’s still likely a first round pick, though it may be the mid-to-late first before we hear his name. A number of mock drafts now have him going 21st overall, and who’s sitting at 21?
The Houston Astros.
That would cause a reaction on the board.
10. It would be wrong not to mention
The disaster that has occurred in Kerrville, Hunt and other places along the Guadalupe River this week. I was thinking that we may be able to do a fundraiser or a clothing drive or something to help out, since Texans stand up for Texans. Please give me any and all ideas you may have. Thanks, and thanks for reading this week.
