Aggies land two major defensive commits

Bryce Perry-Wright. (Rivals)

Texas A&M added two more major pieces to its 2026 recruiting class over the long weekend with commitments from 3-star linebacker Tank King and 4-star defensive end Bryce Perry-Wright. The two commitments push A&M’s total to 24 and back to third overall in the On3/Rivals rankings.

King, who was a longtime A&M lean, made it official shortly after noon on Friday. Even though the Port Arthur Memorial product had given his verbal commitment to the Aggie coaching staff the week before, Notre Dame and Michigan both made last-ditch efforts to sway him — or, at least, get him to slow down his commitment. Instead, King stuck to his schedule and committed to the Aggies shortly after his twin brother committed to TCU.

By landing Perry-Wright, A&M continues its remarkably effective recruiting in the state of Georgia. Perry-Wright joins fellow defensive ends Tristian Givens of Columbus and Jordan Carter of Douglasville, as well as 4-star wide receiver Aaron Gregory, also of Douglasville, on A&M’s commitment list. Perry-Wright chose the Aggies over Clemson and Texas, and both the Tigers and Longhorns tried extremely hard in the final 48 hours to get Perry-Wright to go back on the silent commitment he’d made the weekend before to Mike Elko and his staff. Instead, Perry-Wright called A&M “D-line U” and talked about his relationships with defensive line coaches Tony Jerod-Eddie and Sean Spencer as key reasons for his commitment to the Aggies.

Other targets decide to head elsewhere

The weekend wasn’t perfect for the Aggies, as 4-star wide receiver Boobie Feaster spurned A&M in favor of USC, which was able to take the lead in the days leading up to his July 4 decision. Four-star offensive lineman John Turntine III, who had A&M in his final four teams, committed to Texas as expected on Independence Day.

A&M winning majority of head-to-heads with Texas

Even though Texas picked up Turntine Friday, the Aggies have largely handled Steve Sarkisian and his staff during the 2026 recruiting cycle. At the moment, only Turntine and Richard Wesley were considered serious targets for the Aggies. On the other hand, Texas was after Perry-Wright, 4-star running back KJ Edwards, 4-star OL Zaden Krempin, 4-star OL Samuel Roseborough and 4-star linebacker DaQuives Beck — and those are the commits A&M has gotten just in the past few weeks.

Montgomery invited to Futures Game

Former Texas A&M outfield Braden Montgomery, who is now in the Chicago White Sox organization, has been invited to Atlanta to take part in the MLB Futures Game during All-Star Week. Montgomery, who is currently at High-A Winston Salem, is hitting .261 on the season with 10 home runs and 49 RBI. He’s also stolen 10 bases. Montgomery started the season at low-A Kannapolis, but was quickly promoted. He may be lining himself up for a move to AA Birmingham for the second half of the season.
