Hunter Simmons to Start at Quarterback For Wisconsin Against Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Wisconsin has made yet another change at quarterback. Entering Saturday’s Big Ten Conference clash with No. 20 Michigan (3-1, 1-0), the Badgers (2-2, 0-1) will roll with senior Hunter Simmons at quarterback, Pete Nakos reports.
Senior quarterback Billy Edwards has been ruled out with a knee injury. Sophomore Danny O’Neil had been starting in place of Edwards, but struggled in each of UW’s last two outings, throwing three interceptions to one touchdown pass. In four games, O’Neil is completing 70.6 percent of his passes for 640 yards and five touchdowns to five picks.

Simmons, a transfer from Southern Illinois, was a mid-year enrollee. In just five games, including three starts for the Salukis last season, Simmons completed 57.0 percent of his passes for 852 yards and three touchdowns. He had a pair of 300-yard passing efforts before suffering a season-ending injury. Simmons has 10 career appearances under his belt.
Wisconsin has also ruled out starting center Jake Renfro for the second consecutive game. In some potential good news, junior tight end Tucker Ashcraft was upgraded to questionable. Ashcraft has yet to play this season after suffering an injury in fall camp.
Wisconsin and Michigan are set to kick off at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday. FOX will have the call live from Ann Arbor.
