Joel Klatt sent a very supportive message to Deion Sanders amid the Colorado coach’s health issues. Coach Prime revealed he had to undergo another procedure for blood clots on Tuesday.

Sanders recently underwent treatment and was cured of bladder cancer, which he opened up about ahead of the 2025 season. Klatt, a Colorado alum and former CU quarterback, has Sanders and the Buffaloes’ in his heart more so than others as he said.

So the message to Sanders was certainly heartfelt. Based on Coach Prime’s attitude, it seems like he can get through all of these issues with a smile on his face. And with that, Klatt hopes he can simply focus on football, and only football, before too long.

“That program and coach more specifically, holds a real dear spot in my heart,” Klatt said on his podcast. “So I’m rooting for Coach Prime. I’m going to continue to pray for Coach Prime. I hope that this is a procedure that went well. We’ll know more obviously later in the week, once this episode airs. I just would love to see him get healthy enough to experience and enjoy what he describes as his calling, which he has told us right here on this show … And he talked about coaching college football as his legacy and as his calling.

“And so for me, I just pray for him that everything is going to be okay, that he can get healthy so that he can experience and enjoy his calling, as he said to us during the course of those interviews. So Coach, we’re rooting for you. We’ll be praying for you. Hope that you get well and you get well very, very quickly.”

The Colorado head coach sat several times throughout Saturday’s game and walked with a limp on the sideline with his left shoe off. Sanders added that he had an appointment to see a doctor on Monday.

This isn’t the first time that Sanders has struggled with clots in his left foot. In 2021 while coaching at Jackson State, Sanders was forced to have two of his toes amputated because of the same ailment.

Sanders news comes after he was forced to miss time coaching the team this summer while undergoing treatment for bladder cancer. That has since been cured.

Sanders underwent 14 surgeries that included a bladder removal. The Buffaloes’ leader has expressed his thanks for his doctors and their support after a long journey. One of those surgeries allowed doctors to reconstruct his bladder with a section of his intestine.

“The process wasn’t easy,” Sanders said at the time, before offering a word of advice. “… Make sure you go get the right care. Because without wonderful people like this, I probably wouldn’t be sitting here today, because it grew so expeditiously, I could say, but please get yourself checked out.”
