Texas Tech shocked the recruiting world on July 4, earning a monster commitment from Mansfield (TX) Lake Ridge offensive tackle Felix Ojo. The 5-star protector is the Red Raiders’ 18th commit of the 2026 cycle. Let’s dive into some fun facts about the 6-foot-6, 275 tackle.

Lake Ridge-to-Texas Tech pipeline is alive, again

Ojo is the latest Mansfield Lake Ridge prospect to commit his talents to the Red Raiders. Of note, class of 2016 quarterback Jett Duffey pledged to Tech.

Duffey went on to throw for over 4,000 yards in his three seasons at Tech. He threw for 26 touchdowns and rushed for five more. Duffey ultimately entered the transfer portal after the 2019 season.

The other prominent recruit from Lake Ridge came in the 2020 class.

Also an offensive tackle, Caleb Rogers chose Tech over Georgia Tech and New Mexico.

Rogers became a staple in the program, starting in 55-consecutive games in his career. He was a two time All-Big 12 selection and took part in the Reese’s Senior Bowl following the 2024 campaign. The Las Vegas Raiders selected Rogers in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

He will look to become a cornerstone in Vegas in the next phase of his career.

Fun Facts about Texas Tech commit Felix Ojo

The Red Raiders’ highest-rated recruit ever

Texas Tech made waves in the fall of 2023 when it earned the commitment of Temple (TX) Lake Belton WR Micah Hudson. At the time, Hudson was the No. 4 ranked recruit in the state of Texas and No. 12 overall. Ojo’s pledge now tops even that of Hudson’s.

Ojo, per the On3 Industry Ranking, is the No. 1 recruit in the Lone Star State and the No. 6 highest ranked prospect in all the land. Similarly to Hudson, it took beating out Texas for the Red Raiders to land Ojo’s services.

Fun Fact: Ojo is one of the youngest top prospects in the class

Ojo’s massive 6-foot-6, 275 pound frame is made even more impressive when taking into consideration how young he is.

With a July birthday, Ojo will not turn 18 until right before the start of his freshman year of football. Considering he is likely to be an early enrollee– though this is speculation– Ojo will be 17 when he arrives in Lubbock.

Texas Tech come out of the shadows to snatch Ojo

This may be the most fun fact about Felix Ojo of all of them. Texas Tech extended Ojo his second offer in January of 2024. He had made it clear for a while, however, that the Red Raiders were not in his plans.

When Ojo announced his top 8 schools in February, Tech was absent from that list. Texas, Michigan, Florida and Ohio State were featured instead. Those four ended up making his perceived final cut heading into decision day.

Still, Tech kept its foot on the gas with Ojo and never lost sight of the long game. An official visit in April made sure hopes were still alive. Ojo indicated to RedRaiderSports.com several times that Tech was out of the running, even after a great time on his OV.

The Red Raiders’ staff never stopped believing and have landed one of, if not the, biggest recruit since they have arrived.
