Last week, we unveiled our transfer portal class rankings. And while our Top 15 classes are all from the Power Four level, we wanted to dissect 10 of the best moves that Mid-Major softball programs made this offseason.

Notable Mid-Major softball moves

Taylor Sedlacek to Omaha

The Mavericks made another NCAA Tournament, led by last season’s transfer addition Maddia Groff. Omaha returns a good portion of its starting lineup, aside from the left side of its infield in Sydney Thomason and Maggie O’Brien. Sedlacek, a Nebraska native, returns home after a career year at Wichita State. She can plug a hole at shortstop while bringing her 17 doubles and 15 home runs at the plate.

Savannah Nash to Liberty

Nash was one of many to depart from the Red Flash after the school announced it’d be moving to the DIII level in the coming years. The NEC Player of the Year batted .416 with 14 doubles and 13 home runs, filling a vacancy in the outfield for the Flames, who graduated Rachel Roupe and KK Madrey.

Talia Tretton to Nevada

Last year, Nevada made one of the most underrated additions with Hailey McLean, who became the Wolfpack’s ace. Victoria Hayward brings home the former Nevada Gatorade State Player of the Year after a solid freshman season at Iowa, throwing over 120 innings with a 3.32 ERA.

Trinity Martin to Grand Canyon

Shanon Hays has been one of the best at using the portal, transforming GCU into one of the best Mid-Major programs quickly. Martin had good moments in her chances at Virginia Tech and has solid power. We’ve seen plenty of development with players in Phoenix and Martin could be the next one to thrive heading into her senior year.

Madison Inscoe to FAU

This is another combination of a coaching staff that has had recent success with transfers and a former Power Four player trying to make their best of their last season. Inscoe is a naturally talented two-way player who never quite put it all together at NC State. However, FAU head coach Jordan Clark and pitching coach Nicole Newman have elevated players, including All-American Trinity Schlotterbeck, who was in a similar spot as Inscore a few years ago.

Kaelin Cash to Coastal Carolina

Last season, Coastal Carolina was one of the best lineups in softball. However, between the departures of Keirstin Roose and Maddy Jennings, the Chants have 26 doubles and 29 home runs to replace. Cash joins the team after stops at Saint Joseph’s and Michigan State, where she’s hit 20 home runs in the past two seasons she has played.

Hannah Leierer to Belmont

Belmont will return Maya Johnson to the circle after she initially entered the transfer portal, and that’s the biggest addition for the Bruins. Although they added Leierer before that news and likely had big plans for the former Campbell pitcher. Leierer can take a load off of Johnson, as she’s thrown nearly 200 innings the past two years and has a 3.06 career ERA.

Ausha Moore to Wichita State

Wichita State benefited from the North Texas coaching staff, adding what could be a future AAC star. Moore was named to the All-Freshman conference team after she led American freshmen with a .455 on-base percentage, three home runs in conference play.

Sydney Potter to Southern Illinois

After losing standout catcher Anna Carder to Mississippi State, the Salukis added another one. Potter heads to Southern Illinois after belting 16 homers and driving in 60 runs this past season.

Lauryn Carranco to Fresno State

Carranco follows her CSUN head coach, Charlotte Morgan, to Fresno State. The rising senior has thrown 442.2 innings with a 2.89 career ERA. She also had an impressive 1.17 WHIP that would help the Bulldogs make noise in the Mountain West.

Makayla Medellin to Cal Baptist

After three seasons at Long Beach State, which included Big West Freshman Player of the Year, will help first-year head coach Brandon Telesco as he takes over the Cal Baptist program. Medellin has a batting average of .321 with 28 doubles and nine home runs over her career. She is also a top-end defender in the outfield.
