15 players who could win AUSL All-Star Cup

After an exciting inaugural AUSL season that saw the Talons win the title, Athletes Unlimited softball returns to its roots with the AUSL All-Star Cup, which will have 60 athletes compete for the individual title. AUSL All-Star Cup will have 21 games, all in the month of August, kicking off on this upcoming Saturday, August 2nd, in Holly Springs, North Carolina.
15 players we believe could win AUSL All-Star Cup
Disclaimer: any of the top athletes can get hot for a month and take home a crown, but there are the players we believe have a solid chance heading into the first weekend.
Amanda Lorenz
The reigning champ smashed softballs last season and is coming off a strong campaign with the Volts, hitting five doubles, five home runs and .977 OPS.
Lexi Kilfoyl
Last season’s runner-up has been great as a professional and shows no signs of slowing down. Her lethal dropball plays well everywhere.
Georgina Corrick
The AUSL Pitcher of the Year was right in the title race last championship season. Corrick had a 1.91 ERA over 40-plus innings.
Erin Coffel
The AUSL MVP went on a tear during the summer. Coffel hit .424 with a league-leading 1.426 OPS and 28 RBIs. She also hit five doubles, four triples and five home runs.
Morgan Zerkle
The Marshall head coach was in the thick of the MVP race as well, leading the league in home runs (9). If the AUSL regular season was determined using the AUSL All-Star Cup point system, Zerkle would’ve won the title by nearly 100 points.
Aleshia Ocasio
While Ocasio didn’t have the best season with the Blaze, the 2021 Championship winner also finished third in 2024.
Rachel Garcia
Garcia pitched decently well this summer, but struggled with the bat. However, the 2023 AUX winner can always turn it on.
Danielle Gibson Whorton
Gibson Whorton finished third back in the 2023 season and is coming off a strong AUSL campaign, putting up a .351/.425/.527 slash line.
Ana Gold
In that aforementioned All-Star Cup standings from the AUSL season stats, Gold would’ve finished fourth despite fewer win points than the three Bandits ahead of her. The AUSL Rookie of the Year had a .373 batting average and 10 extra-base hits.
Bubba Nickles-Camarena
Nickles-Camarena finished second in AUSL with seven home runs. She’s been a consistent presence atop the standings, winning AUX last year.
Clarie Davidson
The former Duke star had a great year for the Talons. Her 29 hits were the fourth-most during the summer, hitting six doubles and three home runs.
Aubrey Leach
Leach, the season veteran, led the AUSL with 15 walks, which makes more of a difference in this format than you initially think. She also hit .355 with a .457 on-base percentage.
Bri Ellis
Ellis didn’t have the best rookie season at the plate, but good hitters typically get back on track. Ellis still walked plenty and if she finds her home run swing again, she can quickly reach the top of the leaderboard.

Tiare Jennings
Jennings has always been one of the most consistent players. It wouldn’t be shocking to see the multi-time All-American toward the top.
Jadelyn Allchin
Allchin didn’t finish the AUSL season on the Talons active roster but she was one of the best players this summer. She hit .380 with a 1.063 OPS in 50 at-bats.
Other AUSL All-Star Cup Thoughts
With the AUSL adding two more teams and a handful of veterans retiring, there will be plenty of roster spots open for those players looking to find a permanent home like Allchin. One of those players is Ali Newland, who had a .368 batting average and 1.113 OPS in limited chances. She’s someone who could prove herself even more during the AUSL All-Star Cup. Aliyah Binford, Kendra Falby and Paige Sinicki are other names to watch that could find full-time spots next AUSL season.
Scoring in AUSL All-Star Cup
As a reminder, there is a leaderboard throughout the season, with four series and the teams changing throughout each series with the captains; the top four scorers after each series draft teams from the player pool. The first series will feature the top four scorers from the 2024 Championship Season: Amanda Lorenz (winner), Lexi Kilfoyl, Aleshia Ocasio, and Georgina Corrick as captains.
Below you’ll find how the scoring works.
Win Points
Win points are all about the team’s performance. They accumulate during both individual innings and overall game wins. Innings 1 through 6 are worth +10 points (60 total inning win points), and overall game wins are worth +70 points. There are no win points for the 7th inning.
If an inning is tied, the points roll over to the subsequent inning.
Game MVPs
After each game, the players and fans vote for players who they feel had standout performances.
These points will be added to the player’s individual total. Points are awarded as follows:
MVP 1: +60 points
MVP 2: +40 points
MVP 3: +20 points
Players also have the option to vote for a Defensive MVP (+20 points). For the Defensive MVP to be activated, 50% of eligible players must opt to vote. For example, if 28 players compete in a game, 14 must vote. If only 13 players vote, there will be no Defensive MVP. The player who receives the majority of that vote will receive 20 points so long as they have not already won MVP 1, 2, or 3.
Individual Stats
The final component of points is individual stats. Position players and pitchers earn points based on their performance.
Offensive Points
The breakdown for individual points is as follows:
- Single: +10 points
- Double: +20 points
- Triple: +30 points
- Home run: +40 points
- Stolen base: +10 points
- Caught Stealing: -10 points
- Walk: +10 points
- HBP: +8 points
- Sacrifice Fly/Bunt: +10
If a batter goes 3-for-5 with two singles and a home run but is caught stealing, they will be awarded 50 points.
10 (S) + 10 (S) + 40 (HR) – 10 (CS) = 50 points
Pitching Points
Pitchers earn +4 points for every out and -10 points for each earned run allowed.
For example, if a pitcher throws 5 2/3 innings and allows one earned run, they would earn 58 points.
(17 x 4) – (1 ER x 10) = 58 points
A player’s total points determine their leaderboard ranking, which will be used after each series to select captains.
