Around the Bases is Softball America’s free daily recap of the day’s biggest games. We’ll highlight four marquee matches and run toward the plate with other notable moments.

No. 9 Oklahoma State 6, No. 5 Texas A&M 5

The Cowgirls stunned the Aggies in a top-10 showdown in Clearwater, Florida. Texas A&M led most of the game and held a three-run edge over the Cowgirls heading into the bottom of the seventh. Down to their final strike, Rosie Davis belted a double off the center-field fence, scoring two runs. One pitch later, sophomore Karli Godwin delivered the final blow, smashing a two-run, walk-off home run.

Texas A&M opened the scoring in the second inning with a Frankie Vrazel two-run double and an Allie Enright RBI single. The Cowgirls responded in the fourth with a Micaela Wark sacrifice fly and an RBI single from Rachael Hathoot. The Aggies extended their lead to three by scoring in both the fifth and sixth innings. However, late-game heroics from the sophomore duo of Godwin and Davis erased a three-run deficit and sent the Cowgirls home with their second win of the weekend.

Emiley Kennedy took the loss for Texas A&M, surrendering six runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking four. After the Aggies chased starter Ruby Meylan in the fourth, sophomore Katie Kutz was stellar in relief. Kutz earned the win, tossing three innings, allowing just one run and striking out three in the Cowgirls’ first top-5 win of the season.

No. 3 Oklahoma 9, No. 24 Baylor 1

It was all Sooners in Oklahoma’s run-rule, blowout win over Baylor. A five-run fifth inning propelled the Sooners to victory. Freshman Sydney Barker had a 6-RBI day, highlighted by a pair of home runs, including a grand slam. Baylor remains winless in both of its opportunities against top-25 teams this season.

Barker both started and ended the Sooners’ offensive surge. In the second inning, she homered to left field, scoring the first two runs of the game. Cydney Sanders added two more in the third with a two-run homer. Baylor’s Turiya Coleman doubled in a run off her former team, but the Bears’ rally was squandered in the fifth. A bases-loaded walk brought in a run, and Barker’s decisive grand slam swing all but finished the game.

Kierston Deal pitched 4.2 innings, allowing just one run on four hits, before Sam Landry came in to retire the final batter. Lillie Walker took the loss, giving up all nine runs.

No. 4 UCLA 6, No. 12 Alabama 3

Falling behind early, the Bruins rallied for six runs in the sixth inning to secure a comeback victory over the Tide. The big sixth inning sparked UCLA’s rally, which saw Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy ejected from the game. Kaitlyn Terry tossed five shutout innings, earning her fifth win of the season.

The Tide made their presence felt early, scoring three runs in the first two innings and chasing starter Taylor Tinsley. Alabama’s Audrey Vandagriff led off the game with a home run and doubled in another run in the second, but Terry’s stellar outing stymied the Crimson Tide bats. After the first two batters in the sixth reached, Savannah Pola and Jordan Woolery exchanged RBI singles to draw within a run. But it was the freshmen at the plate for UCLA who decided the game. Aleena Garcia drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at three, leading to Murphy’s ejection. In the next at-bat, Sofia Mujica doubled to center field, driving in three runs and giving the Bruins their first lead of the game.

Terry retired six of the last seven batters she faced to secure the win. Jocelyn Briski took the loss for Alabama, which has dropped three of its last four games. UCLA’s perfect season remains intact following the come-from-behind win.

No. 10 LSU 7, No. 18 Virginia Tech 2

It wasn’t the anticipated matchup in a top-25 showdown in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Hokies hadn’t allowed a run this season, but Virginia Tech starter Emma Mazzarone gave up five runs through the first three innings. LSU’s freshman sensation Jayden Heavener needed only that to secure the win, striking out five and allowing just two runs on five hits in a complete-game effort.

After capitalizing on a Hokies’ error in the first, LSU put up a big inning in the second. A Jalia Lassiter RBI single, a run-scoring wild pitch, and a two-run Maci Bergeron homer added four more runs for LSU. In the fourth inning, Jadyn Laneaux drove in two more runs for the Tigers, pushing the lead to seven. The sixth inning saw the only runs of the game for Virginia Tech. An RBI double from Bre Peck and a Michelle Chatfield RBI groundout was the Hokies’ only offensive production.

Heavener has thrown a complete game in each of her three starts this season. The Tigers remain perfect but will rematch the Hokies at 12:30 p.m. ET tomorrow.

Impact Players of the Day

Samantha Lincoln tossed a perfect game in Texas Tech’s 3-0 win over UMass. The freshman pitcher struck out nine in her complete-game effort.

Nebraska’s win over Northern Colorado featured a no-hitter from Jordy Bahl. She struck out five in the Cornhuskers’ run-rule victory over the Bears. The junior also added two extra-base hits and 3 RBIs in Nebraska’s doubleheader win over Montana.

It was a pair of players in Auburn’s upset win over No. 9 Oklahoma State. Abbey Smith was the difference in the game, belting the first home run of her career to stun the Cowgirls in Clearwater. Oklahoma transfer SJ Geurin was solid in relief, throwing 3.1 shutout innings to secure the win.

It was the Bri Ellis show in Arkansas’ 12-4 win over Southern Miss. Ellis reached base three times, homered twice, and drove in five runs in the Razorbacks’ victory.
