Athletes Form Professional Women’s Softball Players Association (PWSPA) to Advocate for Change
The Professional Women’s Softball Players Association (PWSPA) was formed to provide a unified voice for female athletes in professional softball. This organization advocates for better working conditions, pay equity, and increased visibility for women in the sport. Madison Huskey (President), Jazmyn Jackson, Xeana Kamalani Dung, Erika Piancastelli, and Aleshia Ocasio played key roles in establishing the leadership of the PWSPA, ensuring the creation of a platform that represents the needs and rights of women in professional softball.
For years, women’s professional softball has faced challenges, including low salaries and limited career opportunities compared to men’s sports. Many athletes were forced to juggle their professional careers with other jobs to make ends meet. The PWSPA aims to change this by negotiating fair wages, securing health benefits, and establishing a sustainable league that offers long-term careers for women in the sport.
One of the association’s main goals is to close the pay gap between male and female athletes, advocating for fair compensation for women in professional softball. Additionally, the PWSPA is working to boost media coverage and fan engagement to ensure the sport’s growth and long-term success.
