Bandits bounce back against Talons; Volts pummel Blaze

Bandits 8, Talons 4
Georgina Corrick started the game for the Talons, making her first AUSL start. Meanwhile, rookie Emiley Kennedy got the nod for the Bandits.
The Bandits opened the game with a couple of hits, capped off by Erin Coffel’s RBI double.
Taking a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the second, Kennedy and the Bandits gave up four runs. Caroline Jacobsen knotted the game at 1-1 with an RBI double. Then, Ally Shipman-Shrout homered, bringing in two more runs. Jadelyn Allchin also knocked a solo home run to extend the Talons’ 4-1 lead.
In the top of the third, the Bandits wasted no time responding. Morgan Zerkle hit a solo homer to cut the deficit to two. Devyn Netz then relieved Kennedy and blanked the Talons in the home half.
Morgan Zerkle made her presence known again in the fourth, singling in two more runs to tie the game. The Bandits loaded the bases in the away fourth, but reliever Raelin Chaffin kept the game tied at 4-4 after four innings.
A scoreless fifth was capped off by Bandits reliever Lexi Kilfoyl, who struck out Bri Ellis with the bases loaded to end the inning.
The Bandits broke it open in the sixth. With the bases loaded and no outs, Coffel hit a grand slam to put the Bandits in front for good.
Kilfoyl and Netz kept the Talons scoreless in relief, evening the series with the 8-4 victory.
Volts 9, Blaze 2
Two different pitchers saw action in the opening frame for the Blaze, as the Volts chased starter Carley Hoover from the game after just two outs. The Volts’ ambush started with a Tiare Jennings RBI double. Then, Jessi Warren singled home a run, and consecutive bases-loaded walks added two more for the Volts. An Amanda Lorenz RBI single and a Blaze fielding error also stretched the lead to 6-0 after one inning.

After Rachel Garcia got the start, rookie Sam Landry took over in the second. The Blaze got on the board with a Taylor Edwards two-run single. Aleshia Ocasio kept the Volts’ bats at bay in the next two innings.
Entering the fourth, Warren drove in another run on her second hit of the game. Stretching the lead to 7-2, Landry and Payton Gottshall limited the damage through five innings.
The Volts added insurance in the sixth, though. After Gottshall tossed her second scoreless inning, the Volts pushed across two runs on a Tiare Jennings home run, extending the Volts’ lead to 9-2.
Mariah Mazon then entered in the seventh for the Volts and preserved the 9-2 win.
The Bandits and Blaze stay in Wichita for a four-game series before the International Break. The Volts and Talons head to Norman for four games at Love’s Field.
