Bandits comeback to beat Blaze, Talons rout Volts in extras

Bandits 9, Blaze 7
Bubba Nickles-Camarena opened the scoring with an RBI double off Blaze starter Aleshia Ocasio in the first inning. However, the Blaze chased Bandits starter Sarah Willis out of the first inning. Five straight hits off Willis included a two-run Danielle Gibson-Whorton single. Rookie Emiley Kennedy took over for Willis, but an Anissa Urtez double and a Kayla Kowalik squeeze bunt padded the Blaze’s lead to 5-1 after the first inning.
Things picked up again in the third for the Blaze when Ally Shipman-Shrout lifted a sacrifice fly to extend the deficit to 6-1.
Ocasio worked three straight scoreless innings but ran into trouble in the fifth. Morgan Zerkle’s three-run shot and Skylar Wallace’s solo homer made it a one-run game. The Blaze got a run back in the home half, though. McKenzie Clark laced an RBI single to make it 7-5.
In the sixth, it was Erin Coffel time. A three-run blast from the former Kentucky All-American crushed the Blaze’s hopes. Bubba Nickles added an insurance run on a solo homer, and Taylor McQuillan tossed the final two frames to seal another Bandits win.
Talons 8, Volts 3
Talons’ Megan Faraimo and Volts’ Sam Landry pitched three scoreless innings to open the game. But in the fourth, the Talons broke the stalemate. Sahvanna Jaquish executed a squeeze bunt to perfection, scoring rookie Paige Sinicki from third. The next inning, the long ball came into play.

Two fifth-inning solo blasts from Ali Aguilar and Sharlize Palacios tripled the Talons’ lead to 3-0. In the home half of the fifth, the Volts responded. Amanda Lorenz delivered with a run-scoring single. Then, Sierra Romero’s sacrifice fly and Hannah Flippen’s infield single tied the game at 3-3.
Faraimo and Landry kept the offenses scoreless through the seventh, sending the game into extras. In the eighth, the Talons poured it on. Flippen came through again, this time with an RBI double. Then, Caroline Jacobsen and Sahvanna Jaquish drove in a combined three runs in consecutive at-bats. Bri Ellis’s sacrifice fly put the nail in the coffin, padding the Talons’ lead to 8-3. Georgina Corrick finished things off for the Talons, tossing the last two innings in relief and earning the win.
The two teams finish the first half of the season with the Bandits and Blaze playing at 6:30 ET, followed by the Talons and Volts at 8:30.
