Bandits 11, Blaze 2

The Bandits continued to dominate AUSL’s inaugural season, securing a 11-2 run-rule win over the Blaze.

A four-run third inning jump-started their offense, beginning with a Bella Dayton RBI single. Dayton then stole second, and a throwing error allowed Delanie Wisz to score, giving the Bandits a 2-0 lead.

Sydney McKinney capped the inning with a two-RBI double, driving in Devyn Netz and Dayton. All four early runs were unearned against Blaze right-hander Alana Vawter. In 2.2 innings, Vawter faced 18 batters, gave up six hits, and recorded two strikeouts.

Bandits lefty Taylor McQuillin, by contrast, delivered a quiet but dominant outing, tossing three no-hit innings.

The Bandits kept rolling in the fourth, adding six more runs on four hits and capitalizing on free passes to stretch the lead to 10-0.

The Blaze finally answered in the bottom of the fourth. Sarah Willis entered the circle, and Anissa Urtez broke up the no-hitter with a base knock. With the bases loaded, Urtez lined a shot to center, driving in the Blaze’s only two runs.

Netz closed the scoring in the fifth, launching a solo home run to seal an 11-2 victory for the Bandits.

Talons 3, Volts 2

The Talons’ early offense was enough to come away with the win, but the Volts didn’t make it easy for them.

Sierra Sacco set the tone in the first inning with a leadoff single, then advanced to second on a hit by Hannah Flippen. Tori Vidales followed with an RBI single, driving in Sacco for the game’s first run. Caroline Jacobsen added to the lead with another RBI single, putting the Talons up 2-0.

In the third, Jacobsen delivered again. Her bunt forced a throwing error that brought in the Talons’ third run.

Sam Show started in the circle for the Volts, but Rachel Garcia took over after two innings and shut down the Talons the rest of the way. Garcia also contributed offensively in the fifth, blasting a deep shot to center field to get the Volts on the board.

Her home run made it 3-1 and triggered a pitching change for the Talons, as Megan Faraimo replaced Raelin Chaffin, who had allowed three hits and struck out three.

Both of the former Bruins, Garcia and Faraimo, were pivotal for their respective teams and this was evident in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Garcia brought the Volts within one run with a deep sacrifice fly. With the game hanging in the balance, Faraimo faced intense pressure. Michaela Edenfield, pinch-hitting, roped a double down the line to move Sierra Romero to third.

Faraimo answered by striking out Danieca Coffey for the second out. The Talons then chose to intentionally walk Amanda Lorenz, setting the stage for rookie Mia Scott, who had gone 0-for-3.

But ultimately, Faraimo’s fiery competitiveness won the battle, striking out Scott to seal the win.

Garcia finished the game with five innings of work, two hits and four strikeouts, while Faraimo’s final stat line had three hits and five strikeouts through three innings.

The Volts and Talons face off Saturday in Norman at 5 p.m. ET.
