Brady's Blasts Power UCLA to Run-Rule Win
It was all Maya Brady in game one of the Los Angeles Super Regionals.
Brady led off the game with a solo shot to right center, doubled to center in the third, flashed the leather in the top of the fourth on a double play ball up the middle, and homered again in the bottom of the fifth.
The UCLA shortstop stat line: 3-for-4, 2 HR, 1 2B, 3 R, 2 RBI
“All this starts with Maya Brady sending the message with her first at bat. That we’re here to play and I think it started,” UCLA head coach Kelly Inouye-Perez said. “Everybody wanted to hit, which I think really allows for us as coaches to be able to say, ‘Well, it’s going to be a really fun, we’re on attack mode.’ I’ll just say this. Game one — it’s always the biggest one. We’ve got to be able to appreciate tonight, get some rest, and come back because I guarantee you there’ll be a dog fight tomorrow.”
Kaitlyn Terry tossed an absolute gem in the circle and benefitted from airtight defense behind her. From Brady to Jadelyn Allchin’s full-extension catch in left to Jordan Woolery’s catch in foul territory, the Bruins’ defense was stellar. Terry notched her 21st win of the season in the shutout victory, allowing just four hits and striking out five. The flame-throwing left-hander utilized the drop, rise, and offspeed pitches to perfection, allowing just one squarely hit ball.

The Bruins played a complete game. Terry shut down an explosive Georgia offense and the offense took advantage of Georgia’s miscues on defense. UCLA tallied four runs in the fifth inning sparked by another leadoff Brady bomb. Allchin followed with a single to left and a Sharlize Palacios hit-by-pitch brought Jordan Woolery to the plate. Woolery smoked a 0-2 pitch to deep center for the three-run shot to take the 6-0 lead.
The Bruins left the Bulldogs on the field in the sixth as Savi Pola delivered on a two-run RBI single to right for the run-rule victory. UCLA takes game one of the series and can advance to the Women’s College World Series with one more win.
Game two is set for Friday at 7PM PT/10PM ET.
