Clemson returns to Super Regionals after beating Kentucky

After a one-year hiatus, Clemson is back in the Super Regional round. The Tigers beat Kentucky, 5-1, to secure their ticket likely to Austin to face Texas next week for a spot in the Women’s College World Series.
Julia Knowler started the scoring in the third inning. The Clemson slugger doubled in Alex Brown, who led off the frame with a single. The Tigers’ freshmen then left their mark. After a leadoff walk from Marian Collins, ACC Tournament MVP Taylor Pipkins hit a two-run homer. All-American Maddie Moore capped off the three-run fourth inning with a RBI double. Clemson added another run in the top of the seventh.
ACC Pitcher of the Year Reese Basinger had a very good outing against Kentucky. She kept the Wildcats off the board for five innings. Kentucky did score in the sixth after a pair of singles and a throw from the outfield, getting past Brown at third. However, Brooke McCubbin came in and limited the damage to one. She finished the game without allowing a hit.
