While pitching ruled most of Sunday, Mary Iakopo and Erin Coffel came through in big moments to lift Team Kilfoyl to a 4-1 win over Team Corrick. And with two wins already in the books, Team Corrick holds nine of the 10 top spots on the AUSL leaderboard.

It was a pitcher’s duel early between Team Kilfoyl’s Sarah Willis and Team Corrick’s combination of Montana Fouts and Aliyah Binford. Willis had thrown three perfect innings before two quick singles from Jadelyn Allchin and Sydney Romero finally pushed a run across in the fourth.

Team Kilfoyl needed to respond with 40-inning points in the balance. After Coffel earned a walk, Sis Bates moved her over to put a runner into scoring position with two outs. Devyn Netz hit a hard shot to Paige Snicki at third, who couldn’t handle it cleanly, but Coffel could only make it to third. That brought up Iakopo, delivering a two-run double that landed past the diving Ali Newland in left field to win the inning.

Georgina Corrick called her own name for Team Corrick, hoping to keep it a one-run game. And she did until the AUSL Pitcher of the Year versus AUSL Most Valuable Player of the Year showdown with Coffel. The former Kentucky star blasted a two-run homer and giving her team extra insurance.

In the end, Team Kilfoyl didn’t need the extra runs. Willis was fantastic in her start, using that changeup of hers to disrupt the timing of Team Corrick’s hitters. She went five innings, allowing one run on two hits before giving way to Taylor McQuillin, who earned the save, throwing two shutout innings.

All of Team Kilfoyl received a major boost in the standings, taking in the 70 win points and 60 inning points. Willis earned top MVP honors (60 points), followed by Iakopo (40 points) and Coffel (20 points). Snicki made a handful of good plays, earning herself Defensive MVP (20 points).
