After forcing a decisive Game 7, Duke struck early, but Georgia delivered late, rallying for a 5-2 win in extra innings Sunday to advance to the Super Regional round.

Senior Ana Gold gave the Blue Devils an early spark with a two-run home run in the first inning. Junior Cassidy Curd, making her second appearance of the day, held the Bulldogs scoreless through five innings. Georgia began to chip away in the sixth, though. With two outs, back-to-back singles from Sarah Gordon and Emily Digby brought home Tyler Ellison from third, cutting Duke’s lead to 2-1.

After Georgia turned a double play to end the bottom of the sixth, pinch hitter Hannah Davilla led off the seventh with a double. Mua Williams followed with a bunt single that advanced Davilla to third.

After Dallis Goodnight struck out, Lyndi Rae Davis drove in the tying run with an RBI single up the middle. The Bulldogs nearly took the lead on the next pitch, but a flyout to center field turned into a double play thanks to a strong throw from D’uana Jennings, sending the game to the bottom of the seventh tied at 2-2.

Randi Roelling tossed a 1-2-3 frame for Georgia in the seventh, forcing extra innings. In the eighth, Jaydyn Goodwin crushed the first pitch she saw from Curd for a go-ahead home run. Two more singles then chased Curd from the game. Georgia also added insurance with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly.

Roelling shut down the Blue Devils in the bottom of the eighth, as Gold’s collegiate career and Duke’s season came to an end on a fielder’s choice to shortstop. Roelling’s complete-game win sends the Bulldogs to their third straight Super Regional appearance.
