Kavan leads No. 1 Texas past No. 17 Mississippi State to win series

Ace versus ace with the series on the line, Teagan Kavan rose to the occasion. The Texas righty tossed six scoreless innings in No. 1 Texas’s 7-2 win over No. 17 Mississippi State.
Kavan allowed three hits, walked two and struck out seven. She cruised the first three innings until allowing a single and walking another to start the fourth. Kavan responded, inducing a pair of flyouts before striking out Morgan Bernardini. Kavan pitched two more scoreless frames before handing the ball over to freshman Cambria Salmon in the seventh.
The Texas offense got to Raelin Chaffin early, who pitched in all three games of the series. Ashton Maloney and Kayden Henry started the game with back-to-back triples. Henry scored on a sacrifice fly via Mia Scott.
Chaffin settled in after that. She retired eight of the next nine batters she faced. However, she ran into trouble in the fourth. Chaffin allowed to first two Texas hitters to reach and they both moved into scoring position without an out after a passed ball. She was able to navigate through it without allowing a run and keeping the deficit at two.
