Another week of mid-major marvels kicks off with familiar faces and historical feats. Career highs and first-time achievements also make their way onto this week’s list. Who are the Mid-Major softball players of the week?

Maya Johnson, LHP, Belmont

The left-handed pitcher makes another appearance on this week’s list. Johnson struck out 33 batters in two complete-game wins over Drake this weekend. She also added 17 strikeouts in a midweek victory over Murray State. In 21 innings pitched this past week, the lefty recorded 50 strikeouts and walked just one batter.

Serayah Neiss, LHP, Fresno State

Neiss was a crucial part of Fresno State’s series sweep over rival Boise State. In two appearances against the Broncos, the left-hander tossed 11 innings, allowed just two runs, struck out 10, and earned a pair of wins. She’s also played a pivotal role in Fresno State’s seven-game win streak.

Gabby Scott, C, Wichita State

The freshman catcher had a career weekend. Scott hit her first career home run in Saturday’s win over North Texas. To help Wichita State secure the series win over the Mean Green, she reached base safely at least twice in each game. Scott recorded a hit in every game, adding 5 RBIs, four walks, and two extra-base hits.

Alyssa Faircloth, LHP, Troy

Troy made a statement this weekend in its series win over Coastal Carolina. Faircloth’s 16 innings helped silence a potent Chanticleers offense. The junior scattered five hits, struck out seven, and limited Coastal Carolina to just two runs while in the circle. Sunday’s win to clinch the series marked Faircloth’s ninth victory of the season, surpassing last year’s total.

Bub Feringa, RHP, Marshall

Marshall’s series win over Louisiana ended the Ragin’ Cajuns’ 89-straight Sun Belt series win streak. Feringa tossed a pair of complete games in the stunning victories, earning both wins in the series. The senior also added two hits to the Thundering Herd’s historic weekend.

Bella Fuentes, 3B, UC Santa Barbara

The Gauchos swept Cal State Fullerton for the first time in program history. A key part of that achievement was Fuentes, who collected a hit in every game. The junior went 5-for-11 with two homers and 10 RBIs, helping UC Santa Barbara to a historic weekend in Fullerton.

Kennedy Byrd, RHP, FIU

En route to a series sweep of Kennesaw State, Byrd tossed her first career no-hitter. The junior also struck out eight in a pair of complete-game wins across 14 innings against the Owls. A 4-for-12 performance at the plate this weekend also helped pace the Panthers’ victories, contributing 3 RBIs.

Rachel Roupe, OF, Liberty

While Roupe is no stranger to the spotlight, the senior outfielder seems determined to make her final season the best one yet. Heading into the week with five home runs, she nearly doubled her total. In three Liberty wins, Roupe blasted four homers, batted .500, and drove in six runs.

Sophie Sun, INF, Harvard

Harvard collected four wins over the weekend, and Sun had a multi-hit game in each one. A 10-for-15 effort at the plate has Sun riding a 10-game hitting streak. Four RBIs and one home run also highlighted her .667 batting average in Harvard’s perfect weekend.
