All new names highlight this week’s Mid-Major Marvels. Also, with key conference series underway, which standout players stole the show and helped their teams roll this weekend?

Kya Matter, RHP, UMBC

Matter was superb in UMBC’s series win over UMass Lowell. The senior right-hander tossed two complete-game victories, allowing just two runs and striking out 20. She opened the series on Saturday with a shutout performance in the circle, then ended it on Sunday with a go-ahead, two-run triple at the plate.

Tess Altevers Harris, INF, George Mason

The third baseman reached base safely at least twice in every game this past weekend. She had back-to-back three-hit games, collecting a double, a triple, and a homer in each. Altevers Harris ended the weekend hitting .667 with seven RBIs.

Sam Buckley, INF, Saint Mary’s

Buckley went 11-for-13 across four games for Saint Mary’s, hitting six home runs – she hit four all of last season – and driving in 15 runs for the Gaels.

Alex Wilkes, OF, South Florida

In its series win over East Carolina, Wilkes batted .600 with six hits. On Friday, the sophomore went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, driving in four runs. Wilkes belted a homer and finished the weekend with five RBIs, also reaching base safely in each of the Bulls’ three games.

Kaitlyn Breslin, OF, UConn

Breslin led the Big East with a .727 batting average last week, going 8-for-11 at the plate and collecting three extra-base hits. She also drove in six runs in UConn’s sweep of Seton Hall. In each of the Huskies’ wins, the sophomore outfielder recorded multiple hits.

India Caldwell, RHP, UC San Diego

In 12 innings pitched, Caldwell did not allow a run, scattered five hits, and struck out 13 batters. On Saturday, the senior right-hander went the distance, tossing a complete-game victory. In the Tritons’ sweep of UC Riverside, Caldwell also appeared in both of Sunday’s games, shutting down Riverside’s offense. As a result, she earned a win in each of the three games.

Aaliyah Jenkins, C, Nevada

In a crucial road series at Boise State, Jenkins played a key role in Nevada’s two wins in Idaho. Going 7-for-12 at the plate, she scored four times, drove in six RBIs, stole three bases, and belted two home runs. The senior catcher also had three multi-hit games and recorded an RBI in each game.

Georgia Hood, 1B, Coastal Carolina

Coastal Carolina’s offense continued to dominate, with Hood standing out this week. The senior went 5-for-8 at the plate, drawing five walks, and homered four times in the Chanticleers’ pivotal series win over Texas State. She finished the weekend with seven RBIs and reached base safely at least twice in each game.
