No. 1 Oklahoma edges No. 8 Florida in extra-inning dogfight

Oklahoma took game one of the series 6-5 in nine innings behind a complete game performance by Sam Landry. Landry gave up five runs on eight hits Thursday evening at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. It was an uncharacteristic night for the Sooners’ ace, who allowed five walks and hit two batters.
The offense tallied 15 hits across nine innings, with Ella Parker and Kasidi Pickering both going yard. Oklahoma needs just one more win to claim the SEC regular-season title.
How It Happened:
Oklahoma jumped out to an early lead. Abby Dayton got things going in the second inning with a two-out double to right-center. On the pitch before, Ailana Agbayani stole second, putting a runner in scoring position for the Sooners.
In the bottom of the second, Florida drew back-to-back two-out walks to Mia Williams and Ava Brown. Three offspeed pitches to Rylee Holtorf ended the threat. Landry was laboring in the circle, posting a 47.1% strike rate through two innings.
In the top of the third, Pickering tacked on another run with a solo shot to left.
Florida answered back in the bottom of the third, putting up a three-spot. Taylor Shumaker was hit by a pitch with one out and stole second. Korbe Otis singled to the left side, putting runners on first and second. Jocelyn Erickson’s fielder’s choice to second scored Shumaker on an errant throw. Reagan Walsh, down 0–2, grounded one up the middle to tie the game and pull within one RBI of Francesca Enea. Erickson then scored on a wild pitch, giving the Gators a 3–2 lead.
Key Play: Williams successfully executed a first-and-third defensive play to get the runner out at home in the fourth.

In the fifth, the Gators ran themselves out of the inning on a baserunning error, breathing life into the OU dugout and Ella Parker‘s bat. Parker blasted a solo shot to deep right field to tie the game. The Sooners then took the lead on a bases-loaded, pinch-hit single by Tia Milloy, followed by a Hannah Coor RBI single.
The Gators answered again in the bottom of the inning as Walsh led off with a single up the middle. Williams followed with a two-run home run to centerfield to tie the game once more, 5-5.
The game went to extras. After a scoreless seventh and eighth, the Sooners manufactured a run in the ninth. Parker smacked her third hit of the day with a leadoff single, followed by two more consecutive singles to load the bases. After a pop-up, Dayton ripped the fourth single of the inning to center field.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Gators threatened with a hit-by-pitch and a two-out single through the left side by Walsh, but Oklahoma held on for the win.
