No. 10 Oregon takes series from No. 7 UCLA, moves atop Big Ten

No. 10 Oregon made quite the statement, run-ruling No. 7 UCLA 9-0 in five innings to take the series and move alone atop the Big Ten standings.
Oregon made sure to get on the board quickly. The Ducks’ speed was on full display on Sunday. Kai Luschar was hit by a pitch and moved over to second on a wild pitch. Rylee McCoy singled down the left field line to bring Luschar in. UCLA shortstop Kaniya Bragg couldn’t handle a chopper off the bat of Paige Sinicki and that allowed McCoy to score to push the first-inning lead to two.
Kai Luschar walked and stole to second base to open the third. After UCLA made the change from Kaitlyn Terry to Saturday’s starter Addisen Fisher, Kedre Luschar lined one to center field that UCLA center fielder Jessica Clements couldn’t track down, leading to an RPI triple. McCoy grounded one to third base and UCLA caught Kedre Luschar in a rundown. However, they threw the ball into the outfield and the Ducks scored their fourth run.
Oregon broke things open in the fourth. Ayanna Shaw started the inning with an infield single and Katie Flannery walked. Nine-hole hitter Kaylynn Jones lined her first career homer, a three-run blast over the right-center wall to make it 7-0. McCoy and Kedre Luschar drove in two more runs off of Taylor Tinsley.

Lyndsey Grein tossed five shutout innings, adding to her weekend total. The Big Ten Pitcher of the Year frontrunner allowed three hits in her nation-leading 25th win of the season.
Grein didn’t allow many baserunners, but when UCLA got runners on, she wiggled out of the jam. Grein rolled a double play in the second inning. The Bruins couldn’t do anything after a leadoff single in the third. Jordan Woolery singled and Megan Grant to put two runners on in the fourth. Bragg lined a ball right at Sinicki, who doubled up Woolery at second base to end the frame. Oregon ended the game on a double play with Kedre Luschar throwing out the runner at third trying to advance on a sacrifice fly. t
Oregon will make its last road trip next week for a series at Indiana and a non-conference game at Notre Dame. UCLA returns to Los Angeles to host Long Beach State before heading to Michigan for a series in Ann Arbor.
